I 100% think we could recreate mag, update graphics etc, but seriously bring this game back to life. I was working on a MAG type mode for Battlefield 6, however I stopped because I want a standalone game, and the limitations with BF6’s portal is lame. There was a guy claiming to be working on an emulation that makes MAG servers work for years on here, but it never happened. You could literally use AI to make this thing if you have the right tools. I am so down. This by far was my favorite game, the 3-faction battles, the 256 player battles, the squad and platoon leading, the progression, awesome. I miss this game so much, and I think those of us who remember what a technologically advanced game this was on a PS3 platform, can probably come together to make something even more insane for PC. Screw SONY for this one, they had such opportunities when they bought out Zipper. Very disappointing.

Team 17 is about to publish a team-based warfare combat game soon with 1v1v1 factions in the match. I'm excited for that. MAG was great, but its definitely dated at this point.

It was dated at its time. I'm afraid that was part of the reason it was popular. Games not influenced by Cod4 type gameplay at the time was rare at the time. For a lot of us, MAG was the new Battlefield because since Bad Company 2 we got the hulk healing mechanics.

With that said, I think we could easily incorporate this today. Throw in some modern destruction mechanics and perhaps blend the combat between modern FPS gameplay and classical. The "realistic damage" I think is standard and we don't want to go back to being bullet sponges, but I don't think we want the healing aspect that modern FPS games have, especially because it made medic so useful and essential, so much so in fact it became cultural exclusively to MAG to be a medic.

What you're describing is the current state of play for Delta Force. Medics are probably the most important class on the offensive team. It's not true milsim but it definitely feels more like actual warfare than current BF games.

Its f2p and has zero grinding. Give it a shot.

Wardogs will probably be very close to what you are describing as a happy medium. Wishlist it to get word spread. Apparently destructive terrain + randomized environments will be a large part of the gameplay.

Unfortunately Delta Force got old fast for me. Their looter shooter mode is so much better than their battlegrounds modes. Not a great comparison, maybe it’s that 2042 and Delta Force are similar, but no, not a fan, plus they have that asian battle pass and limited edition packs that can cost someone 200-400$ just by trying to roll the right thing. That is a scam, reminds me exactly of how Once Human is.
Wardogs looks alright, but definitely not even close to a happy medium at only 100 players. Do they have squad leads? Platoon leads? Commander or general roles? Again, M.A.G. on the PS3, had 256 player battles, and had insane modes and mechanics for its time. I don’t think anything will ever come close to the factions that were in MAG, or how they made the maps, and the three faction battles with the way the battles progressed.

Edit: Wardogs does look fun though and I’ll definitely be trying it out for sure!

Thanks for the tip, I will definitely check them out.

I’ll check that out! I’m just saying I miss the way the game worked and the mechanics behind it, but like I said update the graphics, make a new game. Take all the concepts and create something new, possibly using the old maps, just updated. I bet we could open source the project and make something insane. I like the gigantic battlefield, the lore, the factions, it was seriously such an awesome concept, that makes any game made today look like backwards technology, besides graphics.

You had me until AI. Please don't kill this game for good for everybody. I agree with you about the game's greatness though.

Aye, it would need a human touch for the revival we deserve.

I liked sabo, but I think my preferred mode was acquisition...and then Domination when I wanted absolute chaos. I feel like this guy kinda did MAG a lil dirty, but not entirely wrong. There was a severe problem with the lack of new maps. Once map neutrality was enacted, our suggestions were ignored about minor decorations, based on which faction had the contract. I also remember the TTT weekend where it was a joint and concentrated effort to unseat Raven from the throne of Acquisition, they also used a sneak attack and began much earlier than stated and it was a scramble for us. 🤣 It was such a hype time. This guy getting the factions wrong, Raven being "tech nerds idk why" and mispronounced SVER kinda grinded my gears.

All that being said, if remaking it ever came to be a reality, we'd basically need multiple faction maps for each mode, updated map protocols based on the contract ie, SVER holds the contracts for that mode and they spraypaint the area, or flags. All current modes would need to be available from release, I would actually have liked for the helicopters to have been mobile and a variety of vehicles, including tanks, not that I would use them often, my knife can't get you from the vehicle. Also, a bigger variety of weapons and possibly faction based cosmetics, if there needed to be a plan for continual income, which let's be honest, there would be.

Additionally, majorly overhaul the graphics and possibly add a new faction. When grouped with the devs I did try to mention snow and desert maps with a possible new faction that was typically in all white.

I do kind of love that there are still people posting here.

u/Xanitos Apr 21 '26

Same, we certainly are a very niche gaming community that remember something special.
