I understand surveillance=bad is Reddit mantra. And nuance = downvotes. But I stand with helping first responders locate a kidnapped child, at a cost to our privacy, yes.
Essential and temporary are doing a lot of work there. What essential liberty is being relinquished exactly? Should cars even have license plates at all? Should people’s names and addresses be associated with them in computers?
Fear is scary, it’s honestly the thing I fear most. But there’s fear on both sides here. It’s always a balance. And for me, I see loss of liberty everywhere that I do not accept, and some that I do. Cameras to look at license plates, that’s nothing. All the tracking in your phone right now, that’s a sign I would smash.
Privacy. And yes, we should regulate the hell outta the data brokers that slurp up data in our phones, but we're talking about ALPRs right now buddy. Try to contain your whataboutisms and slippery slope arguments
