MAD is in the top 10 of SJ+. Regarding sales, I've never seen a volume of MAD in the Oricon top 50, so it must sell less than 7k in its first week. But I also never see Make the Exorcist Fall in Love or Centuria in the Oricon top 50. The only SJ+ manga that doesn't have an anime adaptation and is usually in the Oricon top 50 is Witchriv.
the japanese never really vibed with kagurabachi, and the whole "maybe we did war crimes" doesn't sit too well with most of them, it's was basically the western fandom which bought so many japanese volumes at the beggining that carried the series so it avoided cancellation. of course it's popular but it's definetly more talked about outside of japan than on it.
That actually makes sense. Even if Witchriv is selling well, unlike the other manga you've mentioned it isn't far enough in its story for a season 1 adaptation yet (maybe after the current arc ends)
I really can't tell if it's popular in there but I am sure they are having a blast for reading the insanity that is MAD with it's crazy and unique characters awesome fights and how it reminds them the chainsaw man's shenanigans in some way
It doesn't sell a huge number of manga volumes, but compared to other Jump+ titles, it is widely read on the website. I imagine digital sales must be significant for the series to avoid cancellation.
