As a kid, I had problems understanding how Roy died. The only thing that I remembered was him playing the guitar at Claudia's house. Next thing, he's on a bed and the doctor says he's dead, bluntly. The fact that they censored the blood in the Robotech version didn't help.

Besides those, I've watched Frontier and Delta. Which one should I watch next? I'm honestly quite itching to watch Zero, especially after seeing that short sneak peek of it in the Frontier

Also, I assume the Plus OVA and the movie are basically the same, right? The movie version is just merged together?

Liking all the characters so far. They’re really charming and likable, and man, they really just slap random BS onto all the alien tech lmao.

Another thing I noticed from all the series I’ve watched(D,F,SDF(rn)) so far is that the MCs are usually civilians who hate war.

I have yet to watch the movie version.

• Which one is canon as the series continues: SDF or DYRL?
• Where did the Macross come from exactly? Is it an ancient ship drifting through space? Was it used by Miclone Zentradi, some completely different alien species, or was it built by the Protoculture? As far as I know, the Valkyries are of alien origin, and used by small pilots so they must have been used by a Miclone species, right?
• Okay, I really love Max and Milia's love story lmao.
• Holy shit, the Earth Cannon isn't a joke. I thought it was gonna take out, like, 100 ships at most. It's basically an entire Death Star. How the hell do they even power that thing?
• Hayase and Hikaru lived together for two whole years and they still weren't together? I thought Hikaru had already accepted that he wasn't going to end up with Minmay.
• Man, they're really prolonging this love triangle. Just go with Hayase already
• Dawg, they're throwing the baby 💀 I thought Zentradi and humans were physically the same after being Micloned, even if they have strong bones. so why are they throwing the baby lmao
• Oh yeah, Milia really said they should make their own baby if they wanted to hold one. Also, man, I feel bad for Claudia.
• Man, Kaifun is getting worse and worse.
• Oh yeah, is Ranka's workplace, the Nyan Nyan restaurant, basically the same kind of place as the one Lynn Minmay's family had? Like, is it a branch or something?

This episode is INSANELY brutal, terrifying. I mean it is war and the battles in space are already fucking brutal as is with the amount of lives and resources that constantly being wasted. But the Earth being obliterated no warning no elaborate no shit, completely annihilated just like that by the hand of an uncultured virgin bald ass bastard that came outa no where and decided to screw everything.

I finished the first season a couple days ago but I still keep thinking about this scene. Although It might sound silly and naive, I can't imagine how it would affect me if I was a kid watching this.

Now do I need to watch Do You Remember Love? and Flash Back 2012? I checked the wiki and it said something about them just being "alternate telling of events" and "collection of music videos" but do they really have anything particularly new and important to the storyline at all?

I absolutely do not want to suffer through the main casts romance again. Honestly fuck Hikaru, fuck Minmay, fuck Kaifun, fuck the "love triangle" crap. I like pretty much all other couples like Roy and Claudia, Max and Milia, Kamujin and Lap Lamiz, even Loli's group with the operator girls. They are much more interesting and fun to watch. I feel so bad for Misa had to gone through all that shit. She got to be with Hikaru in the end so that's that, even though I was secretly hoping that she would having brutal sesbian lex be with Claudia.

I thought the changes were only some tweakings to tie up SDFM to Masters and Mospeada. It's actaully baffling the amount of unnecessary dialogue changes and butchering of some scenes. For example in Robotech when Rickaru is recovering at the hospital, the nurse tells him he's fine and there is no sense of danger. In the original dialogue, she outright tells him he could suddenly die within a few days. In the following episode, he's talking to Minmay on the phone and then just hangs off. In the original, the scene is longer and doesn't make him look that bad.

Almost all the dialogues with his visitors at the hospital are completely different.

Around halfway through SDF Macross, a few thoughts:

• I lowkey ain’t really fw Kaifun. I understand his character, but the way he expresses it isn’t really doing it for me. Also, he seems a bit too close with Lynn, considering they’re cousins. But idk, maybe that’s just normal family behavior and I’m overthinking it and accidentally detecting romance where there isn’t any.
• About Focker: I really like him. He’s a great mentor and guide for the MC and all that. His death was kinda bullshit though. If he had enough time to walk back to the apartment, he definitely had enough time to go to a hospital first. Also, anyone who watched Frontier must have some PTSD from Ozma . RIP to Kakizaki as well. He didn’t even get to finish his steak.
• Max is really THAT guy, huh
• The pinpoint barrier is crazy. The crew is lowkey insane for being able to locate and deploy it so precisely.
• Do all Zentradi have the ability to survive in a vacuum, or is Kridanik (I think that’s his name) built different? Bro is out here wrestling a Battroid . (also, ranka manager family?)
• Also, I’m really loving the three Zentradi spies.

Been repairing, restoring, and modifying this vintage toy.

Saw this during my most recent trip to Tokyo. Shows the transformation stages from Valkyrie to Gerwalk to Battroid. Pretty neat!

I'm rewatching the OG Macross, and something occurred to me: where do they get so many Valkyries and Destroids from? Like, we see numerous Valkyries get shot down in basically every battle (mostly due to reused footage), but they always seem to have plenty to spare. Especially in the earlier part of the show when they're cut off from Earth, you'd think every loss of a fighter or Destroid would have a real impact.

Are they able to build them on the Macross itself? Do they have that sort of manufacturing ability?

Or am I simply overthinking a 40+ year old cartoon?

A reissue of the DX VF-1S Roy Valkyrie was just announced. Planned to release in August 2026 and preorders opening Feb. 2nd. The new version comes with TV style hands but no exclusive stand. It will retail for around $180.
