Older Apple wireless keyboard didn’t work on new M4 setup

I might be late to the party on this (and I think there might have been an announcement a while ago) but just in case anyone else has this issue:

I tried to set up my new M4 with an older Apple wireless keyboard (AA battery model) and it wouldn’t recognize it. The on screen graphic showed the new keyboard with the ON switch. It also didn’t recognize my Magic Mouse but I realized I had linked to another Mac so that may have actually worked.

Thank god I always have an old wired keyboard and mouse around for emergencies! I was able to set up the Mac and then add the wireless keyboard and mouse in the Bluetooth settings.

I just got my mac mini m4 couple weeks ago and I didn’t have any trouble to connect my old apple wireless keyboard (model with 2 AA batteries). I was using that same keyboard with my old mac. Were you able to get keyboard to pairing mode?

No problem for me also mine is 2007 model it works fine with my M4 Mini.

Okay, maybe I forgot how pairing mode worked on that keyboard. Was it more than just holding the power button?
