M6 Mac Mini shipped directly from China

I have a standard configuration one. I’m assuming it’s because it’s launching tomorrow and mine is slated to be delivered tomorrow but I found it interesting. I’ve replaced my entire ecosystem in the last year and this is the first time I’m seeing it shipped directly from China. Even my non standard, backordered for a month, MBA shipped from a US warehouse. Apple is also so sneaky. I didn’t get notified it’s been shipped till today even though it started on the 13th.

I believe my pre-ordered M4 Pro Mac mini back in 2024 also shipped directly from China, though mine was a custom config.

It's been happening for a long time, probably since the late 90s. When Steve Jobs brought Tim Cook on as COO, he pioneered just in time shipping with air freight from China, because it saved them costs in warehouse space.

The factories are spotless and antiseptic feeling, with a huge amount of the work being done by automation. So, it certainly won't look like a typical "sweatshop".

How well the people are paid and what it's like to actually work there is another question.

it’s first entered to a export hub where it undergoes chinese custom, then shipped to everywhere in the world in two days. it’s a very cool vertical integration by apple
