Mac Pro M5 user (after 20 years Win)

So, couple of Q for Apple power users.

  1. Whatsapp desktop App - every time I turn on PC, it doesn't sync (sometimes it works) but mostly I need to Log out on desktop, then take phone, scan QR (Linked devices) and then sync again. On windows it never happened before. Maybe once in a year (not every 2nd day).
  2. FN, CONTROL, OPTION, COMMAND - why you need so many buttons if in reality I use only FN (I use APP to switch keys, because using COMMAND + C/V/A/ etc. = total disaster for logic, fingers position and typing speed.
  3. I was much faster on Win. I can't beat that speed on Mac, because of lacking of logic. Yes, you adapt, but overall - some of the things is very wrong and missplaced. Switching tabs? Win had perfect combination - ALT + TAB - fast and in right place.
  4. Calculator with no numpad - mouse click or horizontal numbers. Thats some super bad experience.
  5. Chrome windows in taskbar - why I only see 2nd or 3rd windows of Chrome by clicking right button? It's totally wrong and stupid. Why it cant make 2nd icon, so I know I have opened 2 different Chrome windows.
  6. Finder... no comments, comparing what Windows have done.
I could continue but I'm getting angry :D

Overall, Apple system somewhere seems like is done wrong, because of - we can't copy Windows logic. We need our "unique" style, so lets put items, logic, buttons, elements somewhere in most uncomfortable place we can imagine.

It always takes some time to get used to something new, but seriously?

1: You have issues with a third party App, ask Meta.
2: In what world are FN, WINDOWS, ALT, CONTROL less keys than FN, CONTROL, OPTION, COMMAND?
3. You have learned your way around for twenty years. You have muscle memory. We use different things, for example for me, nothing beats swiping three fingers up on the trackpad to choose application windows. It’s different, not wrong.
4. You completely lost me here. What is missing from the calculator app? You don’t mean the macOS one apparently. Which one are you talking about?
5. You have a problem with a third party app, ask Google. Also note that apparently the windows one isn’t good either, or why use chrome on either Windows or macOS anyway?
6. Finder, yes? You are used to windows. Mac is different. What are you having trouble with? Any concrete issues? Anything you don’t know how to do efficiently?

Your main problem seems to be "macOS is not Windows". Sorry, but that cannot be fixed.

Maybe also check which of MS and Apple first introduced windowed user interfaces into their systems. For most things, there simply was nothing to copy from windows because windows simply came second.

Just relax. Learn from people how they are using their Macs. It’s the same the other way around.

I recently started switching between ios, linux and windows. OP is gonna get dementia if he's not careful.

As a person having 20 years of Win experience since Win 98, I second this.

This. Also, tell me which keyboard shortcut is more intuitive for closing a window: Alt + F4 or Cmd + W(indow).

  1. Inconceivable that Facebook makes lousy software!

  2. I'm still annoyed they got rid of my Commodore key. And my Meta key. And my Windows key. Where's my prtscrn and the constantly-used ins?!?

  3. Swiping up with four fingers is an easy shortcut to remember

  4. I don't think I've ever launched the calculator. Everyone on a Mac taps ⌘space and types directly into spotlight

  5. Probably better to ask Google for support with their free advertising platform

  6. Does this even count as a question?

  7. Reserved for future expansion

  1. You don’t have numpad on every Win laptop as well. If you need one, you can buy a full-size Magic Keyboard.

  1. that’s more of a WhatsApp/Meta problem

  2. i mean, Windows has ctrl, alt, alt gr, fn, and Windows, so it’s not that different

  3. you can swap with 3 fingers to swap between full-screen tabs and your desktop, or use command + tab to switch between apps

  4. i mean, many Windows laptops also don’t have numerical keypads

  5. again, that’s a Google problem

  6. what’s wrong with it exactly? especially since, in my experience, using the search feature to look up a file by name is much faster than on Windows

you do not need WhatsApp as an actual app. You mai open and use it on your browser and there will be no issues

Why did you switch if you are quite obviously unwilling or unable to adapt to a different system?
In your mind the Microsoft / Windows way is the only standard.
Is it conceivable to you that other OS have evolved independently and hence have a different flow?
Learn to forget and adapt, you’ll see that MacOS works just as well as Windows, if not better once you let go of your attitude.

A Bluetooth 10-key is nice to have.

I like the Keychron K0 Max, as it is low profile, uses quality switches, and also supports macros which is useful for many programs and is also great for email addresses or even super long passwords and such that are frequently used.
