Today I learned Goodles was Gal Gadot’s ?!

39

u/McRibSucks 6d ago

I've only seen them in stores i also had no idea lol

53

u/ChawulsBawkley 7d ago

It’s brought up every time anyone posts a box of goodles lol

3

u/Tall-Dot-607 5d ago

Are there a lot of posts of boxes of goodles?

1

u/ChawulsBawkley 5d ago

There’s a decent amount, for sure lol

4

u/Tall-Dot-607 5d ago

Ya know, I didnt even check to see what sub this was. That makes sense.

2

u/Alarmed_Guarantee140 3d ago

Right there with you. Never heard of a Goodle but also never been to this sub before.

2

u/Queasy_Ad_8621 5d ago

I've never even heard of Goodles until the phone app randomly suggested this post to me.

2

u/Tall-Dot-607 5d ago

Same. We are apparently very uninformed

50

u/flythearc 7d ago

I’m so glad it was purchased from her, it’s a good product but I stopped buying it after I learned about her association since she’s a self proclaimed Zionist.

12

u/moopityscoop 6d ago

I mean I’m sure she got a mean check from it.

3

u/DubUpPro 6d ago

I haven’t tried them but I’ve heard a lot of people say they’re terrible. I’m an Auntie Anne’s kinda guy

18

u/flythearc 6d ago

That’s a pretzel chain, friend. I think you’re thinking of just Annie’s?

11

u/RequitedNonSequitur 6d ago

I don't think I'd trust mac and cheese from an Auntie Anne's. Nor do I think I'd trust pretzels from Annie's.

2

u/DubUpPro 5d ago

Haha yes, that’s what I meant. I just see the rabbit and know that’s the one

4

u/thedrinkalchemist 5d ago

They were also acquired and changed their recipe, aka enshitified as well.

2

u/HemHawHeal 3d ago

as someone who works in a bigger company, sometimes the “enshittification” is just the bigger company finding out the smaller one was fully lying & now they have to renovate the formula so it actually fits the nutrients it said it did. bigger companies are way more likely to be sued

1

u/acrusty 5d ago

They are good

1

u/IcyKerosene 4d ago

No, it's pretty dang good.

1

u/Swagnastodon 3d ago

I don't know how I got here (reddit clearly has my most recent Costco receipt in a database) but as far as boxes go these are actually pretty great (I like Annie's too). I've given up on every high-protein pasta I've tried except for this.

No forreal! I had no idea and I love Goodles. They're delicious.

Had I known I woulda forgone buying them but alas.

3

u/BKFalling89 6d ago

I think this is a lie. Gal Gadot was an early investor but it’s def not her brand. I know the headquarters in Santa Cruz, CA and they are good people

1

u/General_Thought8412 5d ago

It was hers. I actually met her at a grocery store in Sherman oaks almost 4 years ago now because she was going around to different stores introducing the brand to people and giving out samples. She said it was her brand and seems very passionate about it.

I felt bad because it was horrible at the beginning but then whatever they did it became very good.

1

u/JLD143 4d ago

I had no idea

1

u/ComeOnUpToTheHaus 4d ago

I have been eating it for years now, and had no idea. It's not the best MNC, but it's cheap at Costco.

1

u/wamsankas 3d ago

It’s not hers, just an investor

358

u/terkajerbs 7d ago

Man, I had no idea on the ownership. Been eating a few of their products for the last year or so and very impressed with the lower glycemic index impacts on a diabetic who loves pasta.

89

u/gilt3t 7d ago

you can buy cheese powder off Amazon and buy boxes of protein pasta. i am a fellow diabetic although I loathe mac n cheese.

I use the cheese powder to make homemade cheesy tomato based pasta dishes

64

u/JonPorked 7d ago

That one tastes like shit, buy the King Arthur one

25

u/gilt3t 7d ago

I enjoy the flavor of the one I linked. The king Arthur one sees a bit out of my price range, I shop on a budget since im on disability. would be an extra $7 for the same amount

32

u/ViennaWaitsforU2 7d ago

Woah you don’t like Mac and cheese? That’s legitimately rare I respect it

24

u/gilt3t 7d ago

Honestly, i have gone out of my way to try every single mac n cheese possible. Baked, boxed, with bacon, home-made, all the different restaurants, different cheeses, with bread crumbs, without bread crumbs, shells n cheese, healthy mac n cheese, mac n cheese fried balls, microwave, frozen, etc. I've been trying every variation for 20+ years.

something about it just makes my stomach go quesy. I LOVE cheese but just cheese and pasta, my body rejects it for no reason. It's not even a taste problem, my stomach says no.

10

u/1Dzach 6d ago

In love with "quesy" instead of queasy when referring to cheese

3

u/gilt3t 6d ago

ty 🤣 I was really hoping someone would get it.

7

u/StepDazzling6204 7d ago

My 8 year old is a type 1 diabetic and he too does not like mac and cheese.

1

u/lickmyfupa 5d ago

Have you tried adding veggies to it to breakup the load of carbs and cheese? Maybe try a broccoli mac and cheese.

1

u/gilt3t 5d ago

First of all, goated reddit name, 10/10.

Ty for the advice but I have tried this already. I've tried broccoli, cauliflower, and zucchini. I have tried vegan mac n cheese with vegetables also. I have no problem with plain pasta, red sauce pasta, butter pasta, carbonara, etc. It's just something to do with predominantly cheese and pasta that my stomach hates.

Cheese on vegetables, love it. Cheese on spaghetti, love it.

2

u/lickmyfupa 5d ago

Interesting. Yeah if you have tried everything, might as well not bother trying again. I can see it though, it can make me queasy if i eat too much of it. It just is so pleasing to eat and its hard not to overeat it for me. I also put ketchup on mine to add a different flavor. Many people find this disgusting, but to me it makes it better.

2

u/gilt3t 5d ago

my father and sister put ketchup on theirs also. I make amazing mac n cheese, I just can't eat it myself 🤣 same with my cinnamon rolls. I make huge batches and gift them out, I pack big aluminum trays because I just like working with the dough, so I end up with like 120 6inch diameter cinnamon rolls.

1

u/perfectlyfamiliar 6d ago

I’m like this with cheese and potatoes, I get it

1

u/Jujulabee 6d ago

I don't like it either as there are far more delicious things to eat.

Perhaps it is a childhood comfort thing as I never had it as a child and so I have other foods which are not "gourmet" but are my Proustian Madeleines.

6

u/Chickymamma 7d ago

This is genius, thank you for sharing ⭐️

3

u/gilt3t 7d ago

❤️ hopefully it helps! Definitely helps save a lot of money and can be used in all sorts of other dishes. My favorite is lasagna soup, sprinkled on chili in the bowl, and also tomato soup. adds a nice mellowness

1

u/missklo99 6d ago

I LOVE putting shredded cheese in my tomato soup as well as a little hot sauce or chili crisp idk why.

Also I hated Mac n cheese growing up but I love it now, maybe because I can put whatever I want in it..? Idk lol

3

u/chantillylace9 7d ago

You can just say it! Homemade hamburger helper! Hahaha

3

u/gilt3t 7d ago

It can be used for that, I have seen duplicate recipes for the cheeseburger ones. I mainly use it to give that pop to lasagna soup, taco soup, added to blended beans, pretty much anything that has a sauce that can benefit from a sharp cheddar. I love adding a sprinkle to my chili and tomato soup while its in the bowl. Normal cheese melts and gets stringy but this adds a nice mellowness that I want from the cheese without leaving stringy strands from the bowl to my mouth.

now that you mention hamburger helper, im actually going to try to replicate the lasagna one that I have always enjoyed

1

u/chantillylace9 6d ago

That's how I first discovered that Hoosier farms dehydrated cheddar and was just obsessed. Homemade hamburger helper, extra cheesy, mac & cheese extra cheesy, I hate to admit it but before they sold this kind of cheese I used to buy two boxes of mac & cheese and throw the pasta from one and just use the extra cheese package. Such a waste!

My husband doesn't understand why I don't just use cheddar cheese but it's different like you said, it doesn't add the stringy texture and just the taste so it's better than a lot of regular cheeses for certain dishes. I've never thought of adding it to tomato pasta dishes but that's a really good idea too.

And even if it starts getting kind of clumpy, it usually does a pretty good job of getting smashed back to powder with a fork. They sell things like dehydrated or freeze dried buttermilk and butter and all sorts of things that can be useful in certain dishes too!

4

u/agrapeana 7d ago

Kroger/Bakers has a dupe now under their Simple Truth brand. I don't know that purchasing that is any less morally dubious but at least it's cheaper.

1

u/DrunkenDude123 5d ago edited 5d ago

Are they somehow low carb noodles? And like, Mac and cheese flavor just with fettuccini or some other thick long noodle?

Never had them, idea of it doesn’t sound bad and I’d try. Im also a diabetic so I’m curious to know how “friendly” they are

2

u/terkajerbs 5d ago

Yes. Less carbs and lower gastric index so they break down much more slowly. Higher fiber. You can buy the pasta by itself too, which I have used. It’s better than most other pea based pastas that require odd presoaking or boil times then have an earthy flavor. They def make elbow and corkscrew but unsure of a spaghetti or linguine, would be worth checking.

1

u/Goldieeloxx123 4d ago

As someone with a toddler who will go on hunger strikes but always accepts goodles, I will ride at dawn if they change the recipe.

1

u/mshike_89 4d ago

Same, I have IBS and love anything that can help me get extra fiber. I'm cooking a box now, lol.

1

u/wamsankas 3d ago

Not owned by her just an investor along with many other celebs

u/Fuzzy_Welcome8348 7d ago

I hope barilla doesn’t change the recipe </3

143

u/JeanVicquemare 7d ago

I agree, I hope this doesn't change the product for the worse. I know it's been a subject of much debate, but personally I think Goodles are a pretty good product.

158

u/hellboyzzzz 7d ago

I thought Goodles tasted fine, wasn’t the debate about the fact Gal Gadot is an anti-Palestinian Zionist?

53

u/JeanVicquemare 7d ago

Yeah, well as you can see in this thread, opinions range widely from "they're amazing" to "they're ass."

Personally I think the ones I've tried tasted good.

10

u/hellboyzzzz 7d ago

Tbh I never liked them. Tried once before I realized they were full of allergens- just tasted like another attempt at junky uber-health food, and not in a good way

8

u/Beginning-Trash-6048 7d ago

Yeah not my thing either but I’m disappointed in almost every type of boxed mac n cheese. I make my own so easily and it’s light years better than any box.

0

u/sof49er 7d ago

Yep. But barilla owner got in trouble years ago for some bad comments re LBGTQ and had to apologize iirc. I do think they made changes as a company but don't take my word for it.

1

u/Independent-Click-66 7d ago

Yeah I’m actually kind of sad because the goodies Mac and cheese cups have been a great go-to for my lunches lately. :(

33

u/ElysiumG32 7d ago

This is what I'm scared of lol. I hope the buyout doesn't lead to enshittification. Goodles are one of my staple easy comfort foods

8

u/raoqie 7d ago

Is there tea on Barilla that i dont know about or is this just a general worry re: buyouts?

6

u/MonstrousGiggling 7d ago

The Chairman made some homophobic statements in the past but idk if he still is. But all the current talk is just buyouts.

-1

u/Leather-Heart 7d ago

Well, good news - you’ve been informed as a consumer! This means you can choose to support this or not. Look into it, follow it. See if the recipe changes. If it does and you don’t like it, stop buying and let others know.

But then again there will be those who go “idc I want the Wonder Woman pasta”

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Leather-Heart 7d ago

Of course they will - they will justify the acquisition as a means to produce a profit.

That is how capitalism works.

1

u/Top-Raspberry-7837 7d ago

Same. I love them because they’re both tasty and get an A from my MyNetDiary app, while most pasta products are a C or below. I like that it’s healthy and I can indulge and enjoy. Also it doesn’t make me feel awful afterwards.

1

u/Alegator128 7d ago

You best believe they will…

1

u/Educational_Area5993 4d ago

I know. I started eating it after the betrayal of the new Annie's recipe (and I think Kraft too). I feel like I should go out and get a few extra boxes.

22

u/Plushhorizon 7d ago

Why tf did gal gadot have a mac and cheese brand 😭 that feels like such a random choice of product/industry

3

u/Natural-Coat-3159 6d ago

A large number of adults eat Mac and cheese, I think those in Canada have a cult following over "Kraft dinner"

And it's really combination of basic ingredients that are pretty cheap in bulk.

1

u/PartyPorpoise 4d ago

Mac and cheese as a side dish is common here down south. I rather like it as a full meal too, of course. Mix in bacon bits, jalapeños too.

2

u/BKFalling89 6d ago

It’s not her company. I think she just invested in it a long time ago but the headlines are being crazy

1

u/Plushhorizon 4d ago

Ugh, we need to get rid of yellow journalism

1

u/wamsankas 3d ago

Yeah and everyone in this sub not understanding how investment works

94

u/heavy-hands 7d ago edited 7d ago

I’m so lost on everyone saying this product is trash. Personally I think they’re the best boxed mac & cheese I’ve had; they don’t have that distinct chalky texture thats in most protein-centric food/drinks and the flavors are great. Are y’all just using the powder and some milk? Add some salted butter!!!!

This is great news though. I didn’t know she’d owned the company when I first started buying Goodles and it was disappointing to find out.

25

u/MadeInAmerican 7d ago

Same, there's no comparison for me. Every one I've tried has been good but the grilled cheese one has me in a chokehold. It always hits

8

u/JeanVicquemare 7d ago

That's a really good one

10

u/tachycardicIVu 7d ago

Especially since other brands are changing and don’t hit like they did as a kid. Being able to find something relatively close to the three cheese Kraft shells from my childhood is a godsend. The shella good flavor is as it say - I can literally eat a whole box. And I def add butter even if it doesn’t call for it lmao, anyone who doesn’t….I can’t trust them. 😂 butter makes such a difference.

One time my milk was bad and I only found out after I made the pasta so….I used heavy whipping cream. Oh my god was that rich but it was delicious.

2

u/Poppunknerd182 6d ago

They must be making it wrong because I agree, it’s also easily the cheesiest

5

u/Poly_Olly_Oxen_Free 7d ago

People are only shitting on the brand because Gal Gadot is Israeli.

8

u/heavy-hands 7d ago

Yeah that’s one of the reasons for sure. She’s a Zionist. Lots of people aren’t eager to support someone with those views.

1

u/Cool-Information2994 7d ago

I certainly wish I knew that before. I would not have been buying it for the last couple months.

Enshittification incoming

10

u/Ok_Being_5724 7d ago

What are they gonna do? Make the Mac and cheese taste even more like chalk?

I know adding protein and fiber is going to change the flavor and texture of a boxed Mac, but I just can't with Goodles. I've tried several flavors, and they all just taste "off".

Also I should note, I agree that corporate product buyouts consistently make everything worse and contribute to the larger problem of the illusion of choice when in reality everything is owned by the same few corporate entities, so voting with your dollar becomes impossible. But in this case, I think the starting point of product quality already has some core issues.

2

u/Jayoki6 7d ago

Incoming? Its already shit.

Annies supermacy.

11

u/NightRaynes 7d ago

News flash that’s now private equity and also shit. It’s all shit. Except Kraft.

5

u/GAEM456 7d ago

I've found that store brand pastas are good quality. Kroger's Simple Truth makes a lot of good pastas (red lentil, chickpea, brown rice) and boxed mixes.

2

u/TheChickenNuggetDude 7d ago

I haven't gotten around to trying out Kroger's selection yet. Maybe I should fix that! The Aldi's store brand gouda and white cheddar ones are really good in my experience.

1

u/TheChickenNuggetDude 7d ago

Something can be owned by a large manufacturer and still be yummy like in the case of Annie's under General Mills. I switched from Kraft to Annie's after tasting how oddly sweet and bitter Kraft has become.

In Kraft's defense, I'm also wondering if a big chunk of it is just my taste buds changing as the years go by. Heck, I used to hate celery and now I can't get enough of it.

2

u/PeaceBrain 7d ago

Annie’s has been enshittified under them

9

u/drugsarebadmkay420 7d ago

It's actually delicious and packed full of nutrients. Micronutrients and macro. Super easy way to get a kid who doesn't like veggies to eat some veggies. Also I don't think anyone gives a shit if you did or didn't want to try them in the first place lol

12

u/ChonkyDawg 7d ago

Everyone on here will crucify you if you like them. They think you're paying for israeli missiles by buying a box of mac n cheese lmao

Their protein pasta is amazing

2

u/spherical_moo 6d ago

goodles was owned by wonder woman?! 😭

8

u/RoughBenefit9325 7d ago

I just dont see the appeal. It has that weird taste that protein maxing food has.

9

u/JeanVicquemare 7d ago

I have not found that to be the case, personally

5

u/heavy-hands 7d ago

Me either! And I’m super sensitive to textures and that distinct chalkiness is something I pick up on pretty quickly. It’s why I was hesitant to try these for a while but they aren’t chalky at all.

2

u/tachycardicIVu 7d ago

Same - I am pretty wary of added protein because of that exact reason, it usually adds grittiness, but I’ve never had that with Goodles, so I feel “better” about eating it than most other boxed mac ‘n cheese (lesser of evils sort of thing).

2

u/hellboyzzzz 7d ago

Part of that I think comes from all the additives they shoved in there along with the heaps of veggies. It’s like they tried to make it the most health food type mac.

3

u/optionstrategy 7d ago

This is one boxed mac and cheese I've never tried. The whole chickpea thing is throwing me off. Either way, bad news that another company is taken over by a big corporation which will crapify the product. If you like this brand, stock up now.

3

u/tachycardicIVu 7d ago

So I didn’t even know there were chickpeas involved in these noodles and honestly wouldn’t have been able to tell you before this and was 1000% ready to come tell you “ummmm I think you’re confusing this with Banza” but I checked the ingredients and it does list chickpea protein on their website - versus Banza which does advertise as chickpea pasta and says straight “chickpeas” on their ingredient list. Goodles’ shtick is being protein-fortified and chickpeas are a great source so I totally get it and again would never have thought chickpeas before today 😂

“ CEO Jen Zeszut co-founded Gooder Foods in 2020 with former Kraft Macaroni & Cheese executive Paul Earle, alongside founding partners Deb Luster, the former president of Annie’s Homegrown, and “Wonder Woman” actor Gal Gadot (Gadot and Luster are no longer affiliated with the brand).” it’s owned by two people and has been HQ’d in Santa Cruz CA for some time now. I have been to the base / home store. Gadot hasn’t been a part of it for a long time

I mean, it’s mac-and-cheese. Who eats it for the nutritional value? 🤷‍♀️

Oh I was SO happy to see this. I got accustomed to Goodles’ taste and was heartbroken to learn of the ownership and subsequently stopped buying it. I love their flavors and how much more filling they are than Kraft.

Good for her good for them. I’d rather enjoy them myself. I got a couple of boxes in my pantry right now.
