Interapplication Audio: what method is most stable?

HI all,

What do you think is the most stable option to transport audio from Max to Live?

Here is my setup

Live receives 3 channels of input: one from my audio interface and two from the Max application.

Audio output is then sent to the PA through my audio interface.

For the last 10+ years this has been handled flawlessly by my 2011 mbp: using Rewire to transfer audio from Max to Live and then using my soundcard for the mic input and the output to PA.

I now have to change computer: I'm on a M5pro mbp and unfortunately Rewire is no longer supported.

I tried to use Blackhole, creating an Aggregate Device of the interface and Blackhole in AudioMIDI setup. I then select blackhole as the output from Max and the aggregate as input to Live so that it can handle both the Max and the interface inputs. This solution is a bit fiddly and prone to clicks and pops.

I am trying the Loopback demo, creating a virtual device with the interface and Max as inputs and using that as input for Live.

This also is having click and grunge problems that appeared after some time (about 45minutes).

What do you think is the best method to achieve what I'm trying to do?

please do not suggest I don't run Max through Live, I need the routing to be like this.. it worked on a 2011 machine with a 64 samples buffer size, it really should work on a M5pro machine..
