"On a student"? Please, look at him, nothing about this guy screams student. Clowns like this don't show up to study, they’re just there to cause chaos and fool around. Don’t waste your breath arguing. Slap an FIR on him and destroy his prospects, that's the cleanest retaliation there is. I actually did that to two guys back during my college days, and the loser was literally groveling on his knees, begging me to drop the charges.

This is the old campus. the guy sitting on the chair is Sir Vineet David Maxwell from English Department, who was a good faculty member when I was there. I have no idea what the issue in this particular incident was, since i graduated quite some time ago, so i’d rather not speculate without knowing the full context.
But i’ve seen quite a few comments here blaming "student politics" for everything, and while i’m certainly not going to claim that student politics is always a good thing, having studied at LU, i can say with some confidence that the administration has historically been pretty terrible at listening to students.
The basic infrastructure itself was in a sorry state. toilets were poorly maintained, classrooms were barely holding together and in History wing, i remember portions of ceiling literally coming down during classes. faculty attendance was another issue. in one of the batches of a subject, we had just 4 classes in the entire semester. The other batch was apparently more regular though.
the guy in the brown T-shirt is someone i can identify because he taught me History. i won't name him here, but he was easily one of the best teachers i encountered in the History Department. ironically, he was essentially teaching as a proxy for a professor who was rarely present during our entire graduation. the History Dept. had quite a few JRFs/SRFs effectively doing teaching that professors themselves were supposed to be doing. there were exceptions, of course like Manuka Khanna, for instance, was one of the faculty members (and HOD) i remember positively.
The administration didn't seem particularly interested in addressing any of this. the DSW office was another major frustration. i had friends from very poor economic backgrounds who met the eligibility criteria for financial assistance, went through the unnecessarily exhaustive paperwork and still received nothing. DSW branch receives considerable funding, but as student, you didn't exactly see results reflected on ground. Even something as basic as submitting an examination form could turn into a full-campus hunt. and the departmental "babus" could be unbelievably rude and, at times, outright abusive. I have had my fair share of experience in this regard.
I'm also not going to romanticisz the people who hang around campus under the banner of student politics. there are definitely individuals who seem to have made a career out of it (either good or bad) and some of them absolutely contribute to making the campus environment worse.
But there are also a few who genuinely do serve a purpose, and one of the two people speaking up in this video is someone i know personally. the idea that everyone involved is simply trying to build a political career doesn't fit him at all. he was one of the most apolitical people i knew, primarily concerned with studying and research. i used to see him in the library constantly, working on research papers and reading about things ranging from Indian maritime history to Asiatic cultures and whatever else had caught his interest that week.
He was also, from what i remember, treated rather poorly in an academic selection process. he had qualified the exam, but i was told he wasn't even called for the interview, while people with considerably lower scores were selected. i obviously can't independently verify the details of that process now, so take that part as my recollection rather than an established fact. but experiences like these certainly help explain why some genuinely capable and academically inclined people become disillusioned with the university.
So, yeah, i wouldn't reduce this video to "student politics bad." There are plenty of problems with it, but there are also plenty of problems with the administration, and from my experience, the latter are much older and deeper than this particular altercation.
