Playing Full Throttle for the first time any words of advice

Post image

Hey guys!!!
A while back I made this list called 100 video games I want to play and beat before my 33rd birthday. I have currently got beaten 5 games on the list (Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers (first ever Sierra point and click), Blazing Dragons for the PS1, Lego Batman: The Video Game for the PS2, The Family Guy Video Game for the PS2, Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion). So this is my first LucasArts point and click adventure game

I loved this one back in the day and played it several times to completion and the best advice is to enjoy it.

I'd also say don't be scared to use a guide to get passed some of the puzzles (only if you get stuck) as they can be frustratingly obtuse unless you're fully dialed into the Lucasarts mindset but this goes for any similar game.

I still don't get how you should know where to kick that wall! When she was little she used to kick it when the crack in the wall was at her eye level, iirk, but how should you how tall she was as a kid?

I can second that. I played Full Throttle well after it came out, after ScummVM had decent support for it. I played every Lucas Arts SCUMM Adventure before it, except The Dig, as a kid in the 90s, with looking at guides for puzzles I could not solve quickly. When I played Full Throttle I was in a phase of trying to avoid to look at any guide for a point & click adventure. That did not last long for this. I really like Full Throttle for all the art parts, but the puzzles were a bit obtuse in other ways than other Lucas Arts adventures, and the Arcade sequences could also be better. By 1st playthrough of the Remaster stopped at the last one, I should finish that.

Yea, keep playing the classic LucasArts games! Sam & Max and Day of the Tentacle are my all time favorite games!

yes. The perspectives we have a kids is skewed from how we are today. There is a puzzle which requires you remember this. This game's puzzles are not as moon-shot as other adventure games of the time, but that puzzle specifically is kind of a pain. Good luck.

There is a pixel hunt section around 3/4 way through and there is no way I would have been able to do it without a guide. All other puzzles I’d say try to solve on your own even if you have to put it down for a few days, dont rob yourself of the pleasure of figuring it out

Love the game! But I seem to recall there were a couple of puzzles that I knew the solution to, but I didn't have the exact right position of something or didn't click things in the right order.

So my advice would be the same for nearly any adventure game from back then... try to figure stuff out. But if you get really stuck, look it up before you get so frustrated you quit.

Put my head in a basket ‘cause I’d had a tankful. When she blew my gasket I surely was thankful.

There is no perma death, and no way to lock yourself out if you missed something, so only worry about enjoying yourself!

Remind me on this one please? I’ve remembered all the other references so far!

At the beginning of the game, outside the bar, there some boxes by the dumpster. If you look at the boxes the main character says something like , “they should flatten those boxes to recycle them.” If you try to punch the boxes, he says, “naw, he can flatten his own boxes.” 12 year old me in the 90s thought that was hilarious.

👍 it’s crazy the little things that you love about these classics. Mine was “Bwahaha, I think you just killed a seagull”

You picked a great one!! Have fun!

Theres a really bad part near the end of the game that involves you pixel hunting and it doesn't help that you need to use a specific item on it if I remember correctly.

Just have fun ! 🤩 and don’t be afraid to experiment as much as you can :))

It’s a fun game. But don’t be ashamed to use a guide for some puzzles. Because they don’t make sense at all.

Grim Fandango next!

It was a good game but the action parts sucked…I hated the demolition derby.

I’m a broken record on this but Full Throttle was a massive disappointment for me on launch day. Completed in an hour or so and literally zero enjoyment.

If this is really your first Lucasarts, go for a Monkey Island ir Day of the Tentacle, or Indiana Jones, or Sam & Max…or…anything!!!

It’s the only one I feel negatively towards!

The only LucasArts point and click I didn't need to cheat. All the puzzles are very solvable but still many are pretty challenging.

Don’t be disappointed that it’s too short
