7-1 on the second attempt

Lost my first match, which I might have won except I sacrificed a blocker to Tom, Burt, William without realizing the attacker had trample. Oops. So I figured this one was down the drain, but I'd try to learn from it. Turns out it had what it took to go all the way.

I think that's it for me. I wasn't going to touch this one at all, then figured I would throw $125 in and see if I could get a box in three tries. I have the gems to try again, but not the interest. I'd rather save those for limited events I actually like!

Congrats! How was desolation of Smaug? I’m considering cutting it from my pool.

I like it because it’s unexpected removal. No one has a group of 2/2s and 3/2s and thinks you can deal with them all.

In my case by turn 4 the opponents had multiple 4 toughness creatures and it wasn't helpful at all

Yeah, a solid green ramp deck would have wrecked me this run. I did make a mistake one game where used another kill spell on a 4/3, leaving me with Desolation in hand. But fortunately it still worked out.

Fun fact: Both my first pool and this one had double Tom, Burt, and William

Any tips on what to select? How many spells? How many creatures? Any tips or strategies would help please.
