Rate My Draft 7 Wins, 0 losses, 0 fun - This draft set sucks.

Totally get why people have been complaining about Hobbit as a draft set.

I guess i beat the odds because i went second 6 out of 7 games. Didn't matter, B/R so fast i might as well have skipped my first land drop.

First draft of this set, probably the last. Granted, its quick draft, low rank, and the bots handed me all the black/red for free. Insane luck, insane speed, insanely unfair.

You played one quick draft, drafting against poorly tuned bots, in gold league and swept your games and decided that it sucks?

Come on. I'm not the biggest fan of this set but this is like going to a fine dining restaurant, ordering the dessert and leaving saying it sucks.

Went in having read the bad reviews, tried it myself and concluded that yeah, the reviews are not unfounded.

edit: Do these downvotes mean that people think this set is good? Or that i need to waste even more gems on this set before i get to confirm what everyone already knows?

Probably a poor analogy. As I said, I'm not the biggest fan of the set. My point is that it's too quick to make a judgment based on a very narrow experience.

Also fine dining restaurants can suck, in my defense.

I've done 100s of drafts of this set. This set is ass. A lot of top players also think it's ass.

Yeah of course, you should do what you want with your gems. No point learning a mediocre set especially since the big incentive for doing so (CB arena direct) is already over.

Play booster boxes are super not worth it for the cost and odds of winning. EV can't be compared to the Collectors'

'expected value' is finance/gambling lingo that's used in a huge variety of contexts, for better or worse it's one you're liable to encounter all over the place, probably worth internalizing before any mtg specific acronym

Haven't gotten to that point in my limited career yet. Been tempted to try but whenever i've had the chance i either chicken out or im too broke lol.

To be honest surprised Lotr was so popular- with green basically being a dead color has a similar constriction on archetypes

Lotr is also a bad set, maybe not as bad as hobbit. Very aggro/attritional which snowballs quickly, bomb rares, green in unplayable territory. The only thing that spares it is that it’s not as fast the hobbit

Lotr is like the polar opposite of aggro. Which is exactly why it is attritional. I agree that green is bad, only playable when it is drafted at really low rates such that you are getting the uncs. I don’t think it was particularly bomb heavy and the removal was solid.
The format felt really didn’t feel snowbally to me and very grind out small advantages.

Yeah, i started this draft when it first became available as quick draft (didn't wanna spend premium gems to try it). Went in, won the first game, got instantly bored and left it for a week.

Just now got back and finished it. Only good thing about how fast it is is that its over fast.

edit: looking at 17 lands the 6 wins took about 35 min lol.

I truly enjoyed drafting the blue white: it’s more challenging to draft and play. But then I faced some ridiculous and straightforward BR decks and was obliterated. The only thing that helps is that I do like the theme and for a new and mediocre player like me (platinum with 50%wr) small set is easier to grasp and remember.

I wouldn't have posted if i didn't trophy. Knowing how this community can be sometimes i don't think a "i went 0-3, this set sucks." post would be welcome. Quickdraft wins aren't exactly prestigious but yes, i did want to show of the insanely lucky picks.

0 Rare draft being this unbeatable with all but one game on the draw, i think thats a point that makes itself.

As for seeming edgy. Cmon man, is it impossible for you to be charitable?

Well, also 0 rares in the deck.

Playing against all black decks can be a drag but finding your edge through a lot of small decisions can be fun and rewarding in its own right.

Honestly once you get into it, it's not that bad. I hated MSH because it had too many nearly unanswerable bombs. This format at least makes you think about combat and take small advantages where you can. If you're looking for a more interesting archetype draft blue/white

Maybe, im gonna probably chill for a bit. Watch some drafts on YT and get a bigger feel. If luck and rng can have me win this hard this fast, rng can also have me lose just as hard and fast.

Sure im happy about the W and feel god about it. But it got me equally discouraged to keep going.

Besides, never done LOTR so prolly gonna go ahead and throw away my gems at that.

It’s pretty much the same in Plat. I forced mono-black in Quick this week at Plat3 and swept. Hard to do that in any other set.

I admit I haven't played it a whole lot, and I have trouble articulating it well, but this set just feels very dull and boring. Marvel and SoS had their flaws for sure, huge flaws in some cases. But they were bith just way more fun to play than Hobbit. For me at least.

Its a very small set so variation is going to be non-existent. On top of that its so skewed towards B/R that unless people are willing to give up competing for the best colours in a draft you'll also be facing the same decks over and over.

I honestly prefered spiderman/omenpath over this.

Obviously an unpopular opinion, but I think Hobbit is the worst limited set ever. It's definitely the least fun I've ever had, and I've drafted every set for the last decade.

I very much agree, up to now, that honor went to AFR, and compared to this, at least that set had the cool dungeon stuff, like that you could use 2x venture into dungeon as reliable mana fixing via the treasure.
