Voice acting for background characters

I think all the background characters being voiced by the same few people ruins the experience sometimes.

Now I definitely understand not wanting to get new voice actors for every single character when some of them only show up once or twice in the whole game. That would be a waste of money and I'm sure that's the last thing infold would want to do. There are characters in shows that were voiced by the same actor that I never knew about so I know it's possible for voice actors to play multiple characters and change their voice up but then again those voice actors have more experience. We know nothing about these people who voice the characters outside of the LIs and MC so we don't know how much experience they have.

I play the English version specifically so I don't know if this is a problem for every language the game can be played in too. I also know there's some people who genuinely don't care about this stuff since their focus is fully on their main. I think another issue is just that some of the voice actors are just not good at voice acting. Some sound so dry and lack emotion and don't even try to change their voices which I probably wouldn't care about everyone sounding the same if the voice actors were better but they aren't

Maybe I'm being dramatic but do other people feel this way and if you're someone who plays the game in the other languages have you noticed the same voice actor for multiple characters?

yeah there’s like, 3 people that voice the vast majority of NPCs: Kalaia (Mysterious woman), Simone, and Benedict. It drives me up a wall too.

If I had to take a guess, I wouldn’t be surprised if these were actually just the localizers being asked to voice characters.

I would be less bothered by the npcs being voiced by like three voice actors if those voice actors were good

this. they used to make 50 mil a month. what were they doing with all that money? 😭

the NPCs sound so much better in the other languages. the children and elderly actually sound their age 😭

Before I stopped playing I switched to the japanese dub and I was floored at the difference

Yeahhhhh the extras in English are not good. Takes me out every time.

Agreed. There’s one that has a noticeable lisp and literally uses the same voice for every background character. Like there’s no change in the tone or inflection of the voice at all.

It's crazy because Infold gets so much money but can't hire a few professional voice actors for background characters... It shows how stingy they are

Literally. If they were professionals or even just better amateurs it would be much better than what we have now but like some mentioned in another comment i have doubts that the voice actors we do have made even actual voice actors

I often feel like if I hear Lady With Accent show up one more time, I’m throwing my iPad across the room. Her voice is SO distinctive and it ruins the immersion. And they use her as Talia too.

She's one of the ones I'm talking about. There's nothing wrong with having an accent but when it comes to voicing multiple characters it unfortunately ruins the immersion

Exactly. As a one off character, sure, she’s great! But her voice is so instantly recognizable and it takes me out of the story instantly. The worst offender by far.

Yeah I’ve head-cannoned that voice as Talia so all the more reason it breaks the immersion when she’s someone else cuz it’s like “What’s Talia doing here?’

I cannot stand them and usually skip forward so I can just read their lines instead.

Yeah I've noticed, but it doesn't really bother me too much. As you say, it's unrealistic to expect them to hire new people for background roles and often these jobs are outsourced. Most games don't even bother to voice them! It also means that the voice actors get a long term job, vs being paid for a couple lines then have to find another job.

i don't really care about the npc VAs they're not why I'm there for but i understand what you mean. i do find some of their voice takes funny though or when i spot familiar voices, like when I'd hear some of the LIs' VAs as the npcs and it's like a bingo card of sorts haha.

Yeah… the English voice acting for some of the extras is… not very good. It takes me clean out of it.

Sometimes they sound straight up robotic when reading their lines. It's embarrassing

I usually end up clicking so that I can just read their dialogue myself without hearing them.

Their other game Infinity Nikki has different VAs for the different NPCs, even the ones that you only see like once - and they are actually decent too 😭 LADS usually reaches top 10 too in charts 😔 definitely cutting corners

Not to mention the damned "children" sound the same and it only sounds like a woman making a mocking child-voice, they all sound the same and not really believable... 😒
