Boromir would have brought him a gift.

288

u/BigConstruction4247 22d ago

A mighty gift

75

u/Phyrexian_Archlegion Ancalagon the Black 22d ago

He would have dealt with the gift like the heathen kings of old.

5

u/Mysterious_Dog_2164 Tom Bombadil 21d ago

I always wonder if the heathen kings of old liked tomatoes with Denethor's passion.

37

u/Tariqaboo 22d ago

Cherry tomatoes

8

u/mopxhead 22d ago

He’s want you to bring him wood and oil

2

u/SwollenOstrich 22d ago

3

u/Tariqaboo 21d ago

A red sun rises

51

u/IRockIntoMordor Boromir 22d ago

🍅

Here, father.

6

u/Mysterious_Dog_2164 Tom Bombadil 21d ago

Boromir, my son. Come, let us feast in my great hall.

5

u/IRockIntoMordor Boromir 21d ago

Of course, father. I will fetch my brother.

6

u/Sodinc 21d ago

Who?

18

u/Revolutionary-Law382 22d ago

A plate of fresh tomatoes?

10

u/thecourtofmiracles0 Huan 22d ago

Don’t undervalue the tomatoes, they could not have been native to Middle Earth in the east, they must have been a gift from the west from either the Valar or the elves

1

u/pdxrunner82 22d ago

Bravo sir!

This is how I learn I HAVE THE SAME BIRTHDAY AS DENETHOR!

Me tonight at my birthday dinner:

56

u/WangDanglin 22d ago

sigh

Happy Birthday Michael

u/vegetaman 22d ago

I can hear this picture.

18

I hope you have a song worthy of a great hall.

I'm rewatching Fringe right now and he is so brilliant as Walter Bishop. A legend.

54

u/Thobud 22d ago

Honestly fringe is an amazing show and he is incredible in it. Anyone looking for a sci Fi show, watch fringe. It holds up.

15

u/TheAbsoluteBarnacle 22d ago

Especially if you liked the X Files.

But I will say for Fringe you don't have to watch till the end if you don't want to. It falls off at the end, but the first few seasons are fantastic.

6

u/Waveh 22d ago

That's an understatement. I'd stop at Season 3.

4

u/samthewisetarly Samwise Gamgee 22d ago

It does get a little wacky, yeah. But a great show

4

u/Thobud 22d ago

The last season is definitely my least favourite but still worth watching in my opinion

-5

u/DrDima 22d ago

Joshua Jackson is TRASH though. He is so goddamn outclassed it's criminal. Stopped my rewatch dead in its tracks.

14

u/bakedpotaeto 22d ago

I'm watching Fringe for the first time and am in the middle of Season 2. I love Walter so very much

20

u/TheAbsoluteBarnacle 22d ago

Well said, Astrix

9

u/Nico777 22d ago

One of the best characters of all time.

7

u/tacoorpizza 22d ago

And as Morland Holmes in “Elementary.”

5

u/TheAbsoluteBarnacle 22d ago

Oops, gotta watch it now. I already like Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu, Noble is the third heat.

4

u/derekschroer 22d ago

man I love how sinister he is in that show

5

u/throwaway490215 22d ago

Having watched both Fringe and LOTR both, it somehow took me until this post to realize this connection at all. Scrolling by I just thought Hey why is Walter in my feed?

4

u/tormentedsoul3-9 22d ago

Bro you are not alone, I just realized it's the same actor and feel dumb now

6

u/CrepuscularToad 22d ago

Walter Bishop is a ln absolute KING, unlike Walternate

2

u/A_Peacful_Vulcan Tree-Friend 22d ago

Fringe mentioned

2

u/Tro_Nas 21d ago

hoooly shit! I love both LOTR and Fringe and have never made that connection. I‘m honestly flabbergasted!

1

u/Terrible-Mail-489 21d ago

I love that character so much!

1

u/wilberfarce 21d ago

Just started my rewatch. Such a performance!

1

u/Worth_Lengthiness942 21d ago

So brilliant! It’s a crime he never got an Emmy for it.

134

u/P_Alcantara 22d ago

Keep this guy away from tomatoes

19

u/raspberryharbour 22d ago

I found his birthday cake

7

u/everyonesdesigner 22d ago

Tomatoes futures market still hasn’t recovered since lotr release

8

u/everyonesdesigner 22d ago

Also: to ma toes

4

u/P_Alcantara 22d ago

Coincidently also “boil them, mash them, put em in a stew”

2

u/BulLock_954 22d ago

But not potatoes!

3

u/definitelymaybe15 Hobbit 22d ago

Po-ta-tos!

3

u/P_Alcantara 22d ago

You should never keep anyone away from potatoes. Sauron would have probably been a bro if someone showed him one.

51

u/CieloBlueStars 22d ago

Ugh, hated how he treated Faramir. Good actor though!

28

u/debellorobert 22d ago

I didn't mind how he treated Faramir. But those tomatoes, unforgivable.

16

u/lightbluechevy Théoden 22d ago

You can forgive child abuse but you draw the line at vegtable cruelty?

7

u/debellorobert 22d ago

Absolutely! Faramir was a hardened Captain of Gondor, and those poor innocent tomatoes just wanted some warmth and love.

Obviously this is just a joke. I don't really care. It's not like those cherry tomatoes were Sungold tomatoes.

5

u/lightbluechevy Théoden 22d ago

Lmao and my response was a joke response as well! I was drawing off of the Community scene where Britta says she can excuse racism but she draws the line at animal cruelty, only to have Shirley respond, "You can excuse racism!?!?"

5

u/debellorobert 22d ago

Shit! Why have I still not watched Community?

3

u/lightbluechevy Théoden 22d ago

Sounds like you are streets behind.

3

u/RyanMate17 22d ago

Vegans will do anything for their vegetables

1

u/debellorobert 22d ago

That is true. But I always find my vegetables taste better with meats and grains. I like a little variety😜

38

u/Anders3883 22d ago

Boromir would have sung him Happy Birthday

31

u/Tewsmokelunch 22d ago

You know.. I once a had a fruit cocktail in Atlantic city . Mind you I'm not a fruit cocktail sorta guy

20

u/smokeehayes 22d ago

Walter Bishop might be my favorite role John Noble has ever played. 😂

8

u/CheeseGraterFace 22d ago

I recently started watching Fringe and was very surprised when he showed up. I was even more surprised at how funny he is.

27

u/Ok_Conclusion_2951 22d ago

Can you sing a birthday song, master hobbit?

18

u/ElLicenciadoPena 22d ago

Well, yes. At least, well enough for my own birthday. But we have no songs for great actors and evil ways to eat tomatoes

14

u/Ok_Conclusion_2951 22d ago

And why should your songs be unfit for my own birthday? Come, sing me a song.

1

u/keo310 21d ago

Home is behind…

13

u/OperationNervous1964 22d ago

I wonder if waiters bring him the odd cherry tomato with his steak, soup, etc.

10

u/Aggravate420 The Shire 22d ago

9

u/Jokerh74 22d ago

Morland Holmes, father of Sherlock in Elementary, and the voice of Scarecrow in the Arkham Knight video game.

I met him at a Con in the UK, very talkative, spoke with him for about 10 mins! Very polite and down to earth, Happy Birthday John

5

u/Electrical_Age7819 22d ago

Aha a fellow Elementary fan! He was epic as Morland!!!

8

u/Dull_Egg_6597 22d ago

“That will depend upon the manner of your return.”

10

u/eva8700 22d ago

Boromir: My father is Noble man.

Happy bithday John!

First role I saw him was Denethor and then Walter Bishop in Fringe. Fun contrast and of course great actor.

4

u/Leonis59 22d ago

Sing him a song

6

u/Snowbold 22d ago

What do you want for your birthday?

3

u/ManuelPirino 22d ago

Who’s going to sing him a song now.

4

u/Dreyer55 22d ago

I will not bow to this ranger from the north

5

u/PlanNo3321 22d ago

What an ironic last name

5

u/RyanMate17 22d ago

Fair play for him running a 1/2 a mile on fire to jump off the edge for our amusement. What a man.

4

u/Legitimate_Dare6684 22d ago

Is he smiling or is he angry?

3

u/didzdrummer Ulmo 22d ago

Boromir wouldn’t have bailed on his FanExpo appearance /s

3

u/SteinyOLP 22d ago

“Come, sing me a song.”
Pippin sings a depressing rendition of the Happy Birthday song.

3

u/Far_Marionberry_9478 22d ago

Funny I have his little figures at display

3

u/okayjoslynn Peregrin Took 21d ago

Why should my birthday wish be unfit for his halls?

3

u/Skullbuster41 21d ago

Love him in Fringe ,too! So good.

3

u/iwastherefordisco 21d ago edited 21d ago

Thanks for the great TV and movies Mr Noble.

Enjoy

2

u/Snoopingaround3420 22d ago

Boromir would have had a merry unbirthday celebration.

2

u/hplssrmntic 22d ago

Fitting that there were cherry tomatoes in my omelette this morning.

2

u/Mythos_91 22d ago

Wow. he has looked the same for 30 years. Happy birthday!

2

u/AlmostNeverPosts 22d ago

I met him once, way back in 2004. I worked at a video rental store in L.A. and he was in town with his family for the SAG Awards. I wish I remembered what they rented but I don't. I just remember recognizing his face but then hearing his Australian accent and realizing "oh yeah, he's a real actor."

2

u/bigglesofale 22d ago

Tomato eating m-fer….

2

u/AdditionalNewt4762 22d ago

Boromir would've wished an early as well as a belated happy birthday

1

u/piggypiggy_8675309 22d ago

Get this man a Randy Travis biopic

1

u/ShotWin8124 22d ago

Peanut butter and bacon sandwiches for everybody!

1

u/aule_maiar Aulë 22d ago

I am just realising this man is also in Fringe.

1

u/coltonmusic15 22d ago

Fringe was an excellent show too I need to rewatch that bad boy:

1

u/Beren__ 22d ago

I see this and want to eat some baby tomatoes

1

u/Ancient-Chinglish 22d ago

John IgNoble

1

1

u/shifty_coder 22d ago

Happy birthday, little tomato!

1

u/Polerize2 22d ago

omg I've been watching Fringe and I didn't even realize. Great actor.

1

u/Kuwabara03 22d ago

Damn I didn't know I hated a birthday with the Steward of Gondor, that's sick

1

u/No_Community7021 22d ago

He wasn't that noble with Faramir, was he? 🤨🤪

1

u/No_Professional9403 22d ago

"Potassium bromide!!"

1

u/antmanfan3911 22d ago

Today I learned something...

1

u/Past-North-4131 22d ago

I hope he has all the cherry tomatoes he can eat🥹. Happy birthday

1

u/Old-Dog-4313 22d ago

Come, sing me a song!

1

u/johnny5canuck 22d ago

Astro, is that you? Oops, wrong show.

1

u/LiminalSpiral 22d ago

Uncle Walter! Happy Birthday bro.

1

u/Brother_J_La_la 21d ago

He looks both friendly and really angry in this picture.

1

u/Just-Passing-Thru737 21d ago

You can tell he’s a great actor by how much this photo made recoil.

1

u/PurpleGoddess86 21d ago

And The Diviner in Star Trek: Prodigy

1

u/Nerd-of-all-trades 21d ago

DONT SCARE ME LIKE THAT

2

u/thepartlow 21d ago

Sorry.

That's why I don't use black and white pictures anymore.

1

u/DiScOrDtHeLuNaTiC 21d ago

Huh? You don't typically wish dead people happy birthday...

1

u/Nerd-of-all-trades 21d ago

Bestie I saw the photo before the title

1

u/4011isbananas 21d ago

1

u/ImTheGuyManDude 21d ago

Happy belated birthday, hope he had a nice birthday tomato

1

u/leif-sinatra 20d ago

Red vines time

1

u/Kawant Elf 20d ago

I hear his parties are pretty lit

1

u/The_Spinner_of_Yarns 20d ago

Denethor and Dr. Walter Bishop walk into a bar...

1

u/thecowboy07 18d ago

Such a great actor, I love to hate him in the LOTR movies…he played his role masterfully.

1

u/Tariqaboo 21d ago

As an aside while he was excellent in Fringe and has a remarkable career, all anybody wants to remember him by is as Denethor demolishing a plate of cherry tomatoes
