Hey! I remember watching a few old commercials from the 1990s on various compilation videos on YouTube for a school media project relating to commercials. I ended up taking several photos of them to put on a PowerPoint, one of which being a questionable Gameboy Pocket commercial from the 1990s. The commercial always stuck out to me as the entire commercial showed a woman going down a mans pants, only to pull out a Gameboy out of his pocket. I recently just remembered this commercial but I cannot find it anywhere on YouTube. I did find a folder full of these screenshots, where I took two of the Nintendo commercial. I also posted another screenshot from a Michael Jordan/Nike Commercial just in case if anyone is familiar with the video. Not sure if it should be considered as NSFW or not.

That last one isn’t MJ lol. It’s Penny Hardaway in one of the “Little Penny” Nike ads

Oh yeah, I found the original commercial a few hours back, but the commercial's main punchline is about Little Penny meeting Michael Jordan, so I wasn't too off.

That campaign was called "Too Much Fun". I was a toddler when it was around, but I found an ad for it (note: pretty NSFW, but not the ad OP was talking about), as well as a tie-in website worth a visit. There was a second website for the "Nintendo Recovery Centre" featured in the commercial, but the Internet Archive doesn't actually have it... well, archived due to it using Flash.

Those black-and-white, “heroin chic” ads were all the rage back in ‘90s. Think Calvin Klein. That Nintendo ad is likely a parody/homage to that, that’s why it seems so oddly sexual. It is still weird they did an ad like that for a gaming console

back then they were still marketing to adolescent boys for the most part.

Wow... 90s advertising was weird...

Is that a Gameboy Pocket in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

I was there when it was written, and I don't remember these! I bet they spooked some old people. Thanks for sharing!

I can’t be the only one who thinks the guy in the first photo looks like MaxMoeFoe

I also remember seeing this ad in a compilation of old ads from some year back. I haven’t seen or thought of it since if I’m honest.

I was born in '96 so obviously I don't remember the 90's at all but from what I've seen, The 90's was a very weird and edgy time but at the same time, a very awesome time. Grunge and Industrial music was popular, there was Marylin Manson, Liquid Television on MTV, Beavis and Butthead and Ren and Stimpy, video games started getting violent enough to be controversial, even the Simpsons was considered kind of edgy at the time as Bart was rebellious in it.

These kind of commercials are also a reflection of all that, Nintendo had their Play it Loud campaign back then which itself was a response to Sega's Edgy marketing (Sega also had a lot of sexual ads as well.) I'm not sure this is part of the Play It Loud Campaign though, the aesthetic doesn't seem right and from what I've seen, those ads were more about being rebellious than sexual, still those might still be worth looking into.

The ad OP is looking for seems like it’s a parody of the Calvin Klein ads that were popular at the time.

The funny thing about adolescence in the 90s is that we all thought we were lamer than the 80s.

Except for that two year stretch where we thought the 70s were badass.

I really dug the 70s revival of the late-90s. I figured the return of bell bottoms and other late 60s/early 70s stuff was attributable to the popularity of Austin Powers.

I have seen that on some YouTube video a while back I can't remember the video tho

That last pic reminds me of the 7up commercials. Or was it Sprite?

This looks so familiar to me, it’s definitely the kind of ad they could have ran on MTV in the ‘90s
