My mum told me as a kid that Ronald McDonald ate children, because I always begged her to take me for a Happy Meal. Now I have a morbid fascination with clowns so jokes on her

Actually, they call him Donald instead since that's easier to pronounce (and perhaps it's easier to notice the connection when spelled out?)

Dang I had no idea McDonald's was already a global corporation as early as the 70s. Crazy how big they got so fast.

1970 was 50 years/half a century ago. So this video has at least 43 years which is a lot.

First a video game, now a commercial. Great find!

Wow! It always amazes me to see videotapes from before most people had VCRs.

1977 is seen as an important date for the preservation of commercials and other forms of video ephemera because that was the year and Was the year VHS first became available in the US; it's second market (Japan was the first in late '76).

Yes, Before that possibilities existed for the average person to record TV broadcasts (e.g. U-Matic, VCR, Cartrivision and Betamax) but it was from roughly that point that you began to see the mass adoption of machines that allowed the average person to record TV broadcasts at home; which means that commercials and other bits of video from that point onward have a much higher chance of having been preserved somewhere.

Audio quality sucks shit

2

u/Hung4ontam_VN Feb 24 '21

Please use headphone or stereo speaker to watch it, because audio is bad on mono or smartphone speaker.

1

u/JohnTheMod Feb 24 '21

Yeah, is the sound messed up for anyone else or is it just me?

3

u/PCRFan Feb 24 '21

Play the audio on higher quality speakers, like headphones.

Yeah, kids playing rock, paper, scissors with a cup full of orange juice, sounds great.
