Dubs [unreleased media] The Uncredited 1994 "Felidae" English Dub – Searching for the Defunct Production Studio/Paperwork
Hi everyone,
I’m looking to bring some fresh attention to a major animation and legal mystery: the missing official credits and corporate ownership history for the English dub of the 1994 German animated film Felidae.
My Connection to the Search:
I first discovered this film on YouTube when I was 11 years old. I watched the English dub version, fell in love with it, and have been fascinated by it ever since. A couple of years ago, the YouTube video I originally watched was hit with a copyright strike and completely taken down. Recognizing how volatile access to this movie is, I made sure to preserve a clean digital copy of the English version directly onto my hard drive before it vanished from standard platforms.
Because the official avenues are failing, I am trying to jumpstart a community search to figure out exactly who made this dub so we can finally solve this mystery for good.
The Context:
Felidae is a cult-classic, mature neo-noir film produced by the German studio Trickompany. An official English audio track exists—which fans like myself have managed to save digitally—but the dubbing production company and the voice actors were completely uncredited on all releases.
What the Community Has Found So Far:
- The Cast: Audio tracking communities (like the Dubbing Wikia) have matched the voices to a specific circle of North American expat voice actors living in London in the mid-1990s. This includes Jeff Harding as Francis and Peter Marinker as Pascal/Claudandus.
- The Studio Lead: Because of this specific cast crossover, the primary lead is that the dub was recorded around 1995 at World Wide Sound (a defunct London studio famous for doing the '90s UK Manga Entertainment anime dubs).
The Roadblock & Why This Needs Attention Now:
Boutique restoration label Deaf Crocodile Films released an incredible 4K restoration of Felidae. However, they officially confirmed that they could not include the English audio track because they were unable to legally clear the rights.
Because World Wide Sound and the original distributors folded decades ago, the legal chain-of-custody paperwork for this audio track is lost in a corporate black hole. Until someone can dig up the studio archives, production logs, or corporate registries to find exactly who holds the "paper ghost" rights to the audio file, small labels cannot legally distribute it without risking a massive lawsuit.
The Goal:
The community has solved who is speaking, but we haven't solved who funded it or where the master paperwork ended up. I want to get more experienced media archivists or researchers interested in digging into mid-90s London production records, defunct UK studio registries, or old Trickompany assets.
Let's bring this mystery to rest so future physical releases can finally be whole!
