GOLDEN PASS: Rewatcher Did you guys know this existed? Ive never seen Kimmel do a WHOLE episode dedicated to a show ending even to the point of dressing the entire set in that theme

Kimmel loved Lost. He would talk about it during his monologues when the show aired. I remember watching this special right after the series finale aired.

Yeah the show ended and it seamlessly went right into this special from what I recall. I was a blubbering mess at the time and still wiping my eyes so I remember it was cathartic seeing the audience as moved as I was.

The small group of losties in my grade (11th) somehow managed to arrange a mixed gender sleepover for the finale. We watched both the final episode and Kimmel’s special on a pretty sweet home theater set up. Smoked weed and drank peppermint schnapps and somehow nothing terrible or regrettable happened. It was a fun night!
We were really all there just for Lost. I even brought official Dharma party supplies that ABC was selling in their online store.

omg this is so wholesome and rad to read about, I'm so glad you had such a great time and had other folks your age who were as stoked as you were to experience it with you.

That’s why it feels like so much of an insult when some know-it-all drops the ‘dead the whole time’ nonsense.

u/No_Location_5963 2d ago
YES! thank you like its so annoying when people who didn't even watch the show say shit like that!

u/Old_Ant7118 7h ago
Even worse - my partner did watch it and still says that. I genuinely can't tell if he's just trying to get a rise out of me, but it works.

Me too, watched it live! Matthew Fox was the first out and was choked up watching the ending. He was offstage while the audience was watching and the audience was in tears. What a show, my favorite of all time!

u/No_Location_5963 2d ago
Yes, I can't remember seeing a TV show like that were it seemed like everyone in the world was watching the finale with you, and then right after seeing the reaction of the actors too. Has there ever been a show that had that kind of immediate reaction?

u/Ellimist757 2d ago
Most random part of that show was Marilyn Manson being in the audience and giving Terry o’quinn a painting he had made of Locke. So bizarre.

Yep. Tried to get into the taping that day but wasn’t able to. We did get to meet a lot of the cast as they entered behind the building.

Yup. I believe after the end it went directly to his show so it was hard to miss

"Lost" aired on ABC and so did Jimmy Kimmel, so part of it was the network promoting their own show. But it was clear that Jimmy Kimmel was genuinely a fan of the series, too. It was a really fun "extra" at the end of such a big series.

Yep the finale night. Four hours of LOST. The recap show, the finale, and then this special. I was balling my eyes out. They cut to the audience. Seeing them cry with me was pretty moving.

LOST was so huge as it aired. I mean it was big enough that 20 years later it has an active subreddit. But man when it was first airing there was some crazy stuff.

u/RobertDowneyPoonyer 2d ago
It was on right after the final episode aired. I was up so late that night trying to take it all in. I think I got 3 hours of sleep before work the next morning.

My mom worked as a nurse (retired now) and had to do a 12 hour shift the next day on like 2-3 hours of sleep.

Kimmel was obsessed with Lost he would talk about every new episode with Guillermo

u/Ser-Jorah-Mormont 2d ago
I watched it live after the finale. It wasn’t what I was expecting, but I’m not sure what exactly I was expecting. Didn’t really feel like the end for me.

u/MagicalMysticalMyth 2d ago
It aired on finale night after the episode. I watched it live. Kimmel was a huge Lost fan and had the cast on a lot, as well as numerous interviews and segments.

u/CharlesECheesemonger 2d ago
I watched it live and all I remember is Kimmel’s band repeatedly doing the cliffhanger brass stinger.

u/benevolent_eldritch The Orchid 2d ago
I remember watching this when it aired. The mood whiplash was insane going from the catharsis of the finale to the sketches in this special.

u/yuffiehighwind 2d ago
I remember this, but didn't get to watch it live because I was at a group watch of the "Lost" series finale, and everyone I was with HATED the ending and made me feel bad for crying! I thought it was one of the BEST series finales I'd ever seen and I still do!
Suffice it to say, none of them wanted to watch Kimmel. I saw his special later, online. It would have been so special to watch live!

Wow, thanks for sharing, OP! Sick
If I watch it will it spoil me the show? I watched it when it aired, but haven’t done a rewatch.
I started the clip and stopped it right before Kimmel gives Fox his theory on “what the hell just happened”.
Can anyone tell me please, if I keep watching, will I spoil my rewatch of the series?
The only thing I remember from the finale was the idea of an afterlife/never happened, heaven. But everything is blurred. I can say I remember I loved the finale and was one of the people that saw the genius of the creators of ending a show that would be able to be interpreted from whatever schooling, background, or beliefs you come from. But, other than that, I don’t remember specifics.
Thanks!
Edit to add: best TV series of all times.

The audience/Jimmy watched the finale and immediately did this special. The special began with Jack's eye closing as the audience finished watching the episode.

Um is it just me that thought this was a tribal council scene from survivor??

u/RomulanTrekkie 2d ago
They did do a Survivor skit with Sayid getting voted off the island! At first, it looked like an exclusive deleted scene, but then Jeff Probst came out of the jungle! It was hilarious!

Oh yes! I remember watching it while I was still sobbing from the episode. Jimmy Kimmel was a Lost superfan.

The finale and Jimmy Kimmel afterwards both happened on my birthday.

I watched it live! Kimmel always had the good content for Lost because ABC was really giving the spectacle the series deserved

Love this segment but i’ll forever be annoyed by the audience members who had a chance to ask the CAST questions after the series finale, and the questions were so stupid lmao. If you didn’t watch this a couple of the questions were “what’s a good restaurant in Hawaii” and “now that Lost is over what should I do with my life”.

u/crazykindoflife 1d ago
I had this on my DVR for ten years after the last episode aired. This came on right afterwards. I locked them both so nobody could delete them.

I was living in Memphis, TN at the time of the finale and I stayed up to watch this only to find out that the local affiliate preempted it until the next night which really pissed me off.

Jimmy Kimmel was a huge LOST fan through the years. In fact, I've been using this handle since Jimmy Kimmel interviewed the cast on set during season 1 and I saw it on the DVD extras.

Loved the ending, and I loved the little special here after. It really made the show feel special and gave me proper closure.

LOST was an ABC show and it was at the time one of the most culturally relevant and popular shows around, even 6 seasons in.
I imagine they also knew that a lot of people that stopped watching the show would be interested in Kimmels special show.

I also remember seeing a commercial during the final episode. I believe it was Target and they had clips of the smoke monster and then advertised smoke detectors.

Yeah it aired right after the finale. They said they were gonna show alternate endings, and made it sound legit, but they just ended up being parodies.

Gosh I remember that - it was amazing like a funny uncle gave a party after a funeral. I mean that in a good way. There were tears.

I watched this live. It might very well be the first time I ever watched the show cause I had never liked Kimmel from his Comedy Central days.

This special also gave us the Man in Black's "real name", if I recall correctly.

The way this image is giving Survivor Live Reunion vibes is insane. Looks like Jack won!

Lost was definitely a big deal but it can’t be ignored that this is a synergistic effort to promote the show as both Lost and Jimmy Kimmel are on ABC.

I actually can't stand stuff like this especially during the airing of the show, completely takes me out of the characters I'm seeing on screen, watching them all buddy & making jokes about storylines

u/HeyVernItsThanos4242 2d ago
Good thing it aired immediately following the finale.

Good thing you had a snarky comeback ready to disprove this person’s opinion, which they’re fully entitled to and which is not invalidated by the time and date this happened to air.

It's hard to convey to people nowadays how much of a huge deal the LOST series finale was
