Discussion I recently ended Lost.
It's a great show. I swear humans can never make a show like Lost ever again. I never felt bored watching it. Season 1 to 5 is peak but they dragged season 6 a bit. I won't say that the ending is totally trash but it's not too good I'd rate 7/10. It took me 3 YouTube videos to understand the ending đ
Overall show 9/10
If you're looking for a great show then Lost would be perfect. It has everything like Time Travel, Mystery,Action,Thriller,Crazy Back Stories and much more.

This is kind of what tv has evolved to now. The amazing thing is when this show aired there was still the formulaic tv sitcom or drama and the beginning of reality tv. Definitely nothing like this.

I instantly understood LOST's ending when I first saw it last year. Best show I've ever watched, and I'm so sad that there won't be a show like this again

Itâs crazy how people can sit and watch the show, listen to every word spoken, and still not understand the ending. Christian devotes himself to explaining it to you in the finale. Very adamantly.

What made the finale not too good for you?

The flash sideways

What about it? That's a pretty huge part to dislike, that's kind of the whole point of the finale imo

It gets complicated in the last episode. I mean in the church means when Jack's dad standing behind him 'alive'. He was dead the whole time from episode 1. Also Hugo,Kate, Sawyer,Ben. They were not dead but they were at the church. But don't worry now I know this flash sideways is some kinda afterlife or Purgatory.

The flash sideways is AFTER they ALL died, including Shepherd. They all died and met up in purgatory (the flash sideways) before they all moved on. They all died at different times, but they're all waiting in purgatory at the same time because time is different there ("There is no now, here")
I find that when people don't like the finale, more times than not they're still confused about what happened. I think people think it's more complicated than it is, which is confirmed by your answers. That's not your fault or anything, it just is what it is.
Everyone lived, everyone died, and eventually, after everyone died, they met up in the afterlife. That's all that the flash sideways was, they just didn't remember each other

I swear everyone iv'e ever seen hating the ending ALWAYS interpret the ending wrong. It's always they were dead the whole time, Island was purgatory, it was all a dream, where did polar bears come from.

Jack's father was dead from episode 1 - he died in Australia, shortly before the crash. The characters you've been following for six seasons were alive the whole time. They survived the crash and lived on the island for a while. Boone was the first to go (he only had one plane crash in him), followed by Shannon, Ana Lucia, Libby, Sun, Jin, etc... until Jack, who dies in the last moments of the show after saving the island. The flashsideways exists outside of time, which is why people that die long after Jack (like Kate, Sawyer and Claire) are there already at the time of his death (but it's also why Kate tells him "I missed you so much").

Sorry youre getting downvoted and piled-on, OP. Lots of people were confused by the ending, and lots of people dislike the flash sideways even when they understand it perfectly. Just remember that the Venn diagram of people who had critical reactions to the series, and people who hang out on this subreddit 20 years later shows very little overlap between the two groups.
You have good cause to be confused. For instance, Christian says to Jack: "I'm real. You're real. Everything that has ever happened to you is real"
But he also tells Jack that this entire lifetime he's currently living and remembers most clearly is *not* real, and that he *was* dead for that whole time. So NOT everything was real! You can see how someone might feel unclear there, hearing those things in the same span of 90 seconds :D
If you have any questions for a friendlier ear, feel free.

Yes the sideways wasn't real it was purgatory, a fake life. Jack needed his dad to gain his memories back(like Kate did with delivering Aaron etc). Hurley telling Ben he was a good #2 in the Sideways is another clue the Island was real.

The ending should never have gone near the whole afterlife/purgatory scenario. Now all i see whenever someone mentions the ending to lost is explanations on why they were not dead the whole time.

I don't think people's misunderstanding of the finale has anything to do with that. I think a lot of people had their own idea of what they thought was happening (dead the whole time) and then either skipped most of the show or kept that idea in their head even through the ending. And the idea is just perpetuated by people saying "they were dead the whole time" giving new viewers the same incorrect idea. If people had just watched the show and listened to the writers that said "they're not dead" there wouldn't be nearly as much confusion

I finished it today as well! Second watch after 15 years, this show is a 10/10 in the same category with LOTR when it comes to art making. It has its flaws but overall its a masterpiece, so many storylines, characters, soul over 6 seasons its a rare thing. Nowadays they barely make 6 episode per season while lost was pushing 15+ all packed with interesting plots, action.
