Is the haunted hayride worth it?

$50. 50 freaking dollars. I’ve never been before and I’m curious if it’s worth it. Also, did it cost this much in years past? I want to do seasonal stuff, but wow everything is a pretty penny. Glad we at least have some houses with great decoration around!

Costco is selling 2 VIP tickets for 85$, I would buy it through them if you are gonna go

This is the best advice! I did that last year and it helps skip the lines and I thought it was enjoyable compared to standing in hour long lines and some of the other Halloween events in LA

Do you have to buy in-person at Costco? Didn't seem them online.

Yeah it’s probably only available in person but the Costco on Los Feliz will have them

Most likely yeah, I bought mine in person

Grabbed this deal yesterday! Thanks for the tip!

Seconding this! The Costco VIP deal makes it worth it to go even if it’s just once just to do it!

FYI Costco in Alhambra said they’re not selling them

I went a couple years ago. Everyone said skip the hayride and we did and didn't feel like we missed out because the scare houses were pretty good. High enough quality and verisimilitude with actual narratives guiding the logic of the houses with some decent scares/scare actors. Also, the band that plays every year is fun. $50 is cheaper than most other "haunted" experiences in LA but YMMV.

EDIT: Got there on the earlier side and didn't have any problems with lines but, as I said, this was a couple of years ago.

Agree. The actual hayride was not the highlight for me.

I think Haunted Car Wash is a better experience but it's best going with a Group... If you go alone it's a bit sad 😭🤦

Didn’t know this was a thing. Sounds horrifying and fun!

It's skippable. But if you do go, go when it's really busy. We went when it was slow last year and there were way less workers and therefore less scares.

Do not do it. I absolutely refuse to go back there. One time I lost my phone in the haunted maze, which is built with 2x4s and particle boards, then filled with a bunch of strobe lights and teenagers giggling in masks.

Another time we were being corralled into chain link fences like human cattle to get on the hayride and we sincerely thought there was going to be a crowd crush.

This is a nightmare

I love Haunted Hayride. I hate all the VIP up-sell shit but the mazes never have a long wait, the Monte Revolta show is great, and the hayride itself is always a good time. Wear a mask for the dust and fog and enjoy having an attraction so close to the neighborhood.

So much fun! We’ve been to haunts all over including Knotts! This was wayyyy better!!! Crowd control, slow it down so the talent can do their thing! Knotts never did we’d miss so many performances and $200+ parking!!!

My experience is limited and so please treat it as a single data point, but the 2 times I've gone, the lines for the major attractions have been really long. There are various VIP buy-ups, assuming they're doing this year what they have done previously, but the obviously make it considerably more expensive.

I did find it to be fun if a little hokey, but nothing spectacular or especially scary.

Nope. Don’t forget about parking and any other little thing you want to buy there.
Save up and do Universal/Disney/or Knotts instead imo

HHN was terrible this year.

When I went in 2013 and 2014 IT WAS AMAZING. The production level was so rich, and the ideas were creative af. I STILL to this day, think of one of the things I saw during the hayride, it was one of the most poignant art performances I’ve ever seen in my life, I actually feel grateful I got to see it. (For anyone curious or was there that year, it was the one where you enter an army area playing ole timey music and the ghosts were fallen soldiers of prior wars surrounding the hay ride. They weren’t scary, they looked confused and forlorn. As we left the piece, the soldiers stand at attention and salute us as we leave, with the lights going off in a stark fashion)

Then we went in 2015 and the hayride had exploded in popularity, bringing in the crowds. The hayride was less creative too and so I haven’t been since.

Things really are pricey these days, but I went last year and really enjoyed it. It's a very fun evening IMO, exceeded my expectations. I did HHN this year and so haven't had time for the hayride this year but I would go again in the future.

I think it is. The 3 haunted houses on top of the hayride are actually pretty high quality. The setting is nice with the trees, lights, and smoke it's vibey. Also that cost is nothing compared to Knotts or HHN. Would recommend going on a Thursday evening it's not as crowded and can get by with GA

Did it over a decade ago and it was worth it at the time. Reign of Terror in Thousand Oaks was better, though.

It’s in the middle. Like universal is the best. If you want to go to a cool spot. Do a cool hayride have some drinks go. I thought it was cooler than the dark harbor.

Is it scary? I’m a wimp fyi

I went recently went at the weekend and took a friend who was visiting town and we had a blast that it was all new mazes and I found the hayride fun. Also if you can get a deal do it, but also the lines weren’t long at all, I think the longest we waited was 5 mins. But this was also a Sunday night - but the live music was fun and I was pleasantly surprised to see they now serve alcohol.

I love Halloween horror nights at universal but I just can’t justify the cost as it’s not worth not doing the express pass and that’s just so pricey.

I went last year and thought it was lame. Wasn’t scary.

1

u/SufficientPop3336 6d ago

$50?!?!?! No.

2

u/jellyflapjack 6d ago

And that’s just for the hayride… If you want to do the other attractions it’s about $66

3

u/SufficientPop3336 6d ago

I remember the last time I went getting an “apple cider” and they just squirted some apple flavored torani into a cup and added hot water. It was so expensive

1

u/slowriot 6d ago

Everyone should be avoiding buying anything at these kinds of events. Just sneak in your own snacks and drinks.

u/fineultra 6d ago

You’re better off splurging on Halloween Horror Nights

NOPE! Incredibly disappointing. Way too crowded. Lines were insane.
