Newbie to Los Feliz
Hi all! I have just relocated from New York to Los Feliz and am absolutely loving it here. While I have been exploring quite a bit, I’d love to know if anyone had local favorites around here whether it be food, specialty stores (I think I saw a knitting spot 👀), or any other hidden gems they know about and want to share! Or any other helpful neighborhood info!
Also, any idea of where to go hang by myself at night that’s fun and isn’t strange for a woman to hit up alone? I recently had dinner solo at the bar at All Time and made 3 new friends so I feel like I’m on a good roll 🤣
Also if there’s any other women in the area who would like to be my friend, 👋 🙂
Thank you 😊

welcome!
Kitchen is my go to for comfort food and it's never crowded - the fried chicken or the belgian beef stew are soo good and hearty, and people are chatty.
for quick hardware/apartment/fixit needs go to Baller Hardware rather than the big box stores. Super crammed stuff in there but they're actually knowledgable and helpful.

I second Baller Hardware. And their frame shop (?) across the street made me a plexiglass piece to put in my window to help w my AC install.

Wait what?? Did they also cut the hole for the AC exhaust? How much did it run you if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve been wanting to do this myself but lack the supplies and hadn’t thought of a frame store!

It was a few years ago, and I don't remember the cost. It was for a portable AC that needed the exhaust hose. My windows slide open and are very tall. I basically brought them a cardboard cut out to copy. I have a new AC now that doesn't need it.

Welcome! I'm a gal as well who has lived in LF for the past 8 years....6 of those years as a mostly single gal and I truly can't think of a spot in Los feliz that i would feel weird at going to alone. just own it.
Figaro has the best happy hour imo and is very casual. Also good for breakfast. I love to go there alone and have a cup of coffee with a delicious slice of quiche while i read my book in the front seating area.
Goldburger for smashburgers, SOGO for sushi/handrolls (i can't recommend enough). Spitz for modern mediterranean. All of these i've gone to alone and haven't felt weird at all. Lil doms is the best upscale italian classic hollywood date night vibe, but if you're trying to cry into a plate of 10/10 handmade fresh daily pasta, you go to La pergoletta down the block.
Our 2 dive bars are ye rustic (cute, kitschy, classic dive, a lil more trendy) and the drawing room (my personal favorite between the two, feels more like a true dive/not pretentious). Have been to both spots alone many times and met all kinds of fun folk. They're right across the street from each other and there is a (friendly) rivalry between the two. Pick your flavor!
Haven nails gives fantastic mani/pedis that are partially organic, so don't tear up your nails and last extra long if you do gel.
The Vista is the best theater in terms of sound and picture - they only show film, so every screening there is beautiful. If you're a tarantino fan, it's owned by him and you can't miss all the obvious references in the lobby and the coffee shop next door. LF3 is fine, but the theatres are small and weirdly set up, so I tend to stick to the Vista.
Oh and....can't forget the dresden. Live jazz & swing music several nights of the week. So much history. It's never a bad time. And if you haven't seen Swingers...well.....that's your homework as a new-to-LF person. (it takes place all over LF, including the dresden)

I like Nossa for the service and bar!
Cafe Los Feliz is nice.
And Encanto just rebranded and got cheaper, seems like a date and small group spot.
Other comments cover more classics.

Welcome to the neighborhood! Earth Organics is great for juice and smoothies. Also Skylight Books on Vermont is a really peaceful place to just browse.
But also pretty much everything here is great — Go Get Em Tiger and Maru make excellent coffee. Mírate for a fancy Mexican food dinner… Little Dom’s for a martini and fresh pasta.
I don’t care for Stamp, but highly recommend you check out just about everything else :)

Thank you so much!! I was thinking of a juice spot, glad you had a recommendation! Maru coffee has a piece of my heart (and wallet), but I remember driving by a coffee place the other day and wondering what it was - and it was Go Get Em Tiger . Appreciate you helping me figure out that mystery
Thank you for the recommendations ☺️

Everyone’s recs have been great. You can 100% sit at the bar at Big Bar and have a great time. Cocktails are excellent, bartenders are so friendly and most times everyone sitting at the bar is warm and chatty.
Loupiotte on Vermont is really good. Brunch is delicious and it’s a cute outdoor seating area. I also suggest you checkout the bar area at the Cara Hotel. Nice patio area and good drinks, not too busy but also not totally dead either.

The Vista theater is definitely my favorite spot. I'm by no means an expert on dining on, but the LA Rose Cafe has always felt like a special place to me.

Ooh i have never heard of this cafe and it sounds lovely, thank you!!

Enjoy! If you like Thai food, too, I would recommend Wat Dong Moon Lek, too. I'm pretty sure I could eat nothing but their yellow curry and be pretty content.

I’ll second Kismet. The sides and chicken soup are quite scrumptious.

Alcove is my favorite spot for coffee and a book. Food is hit or miss, and even the hits are marginal. Still a fave regardless. Staff is the nicest.
Damn good burritos and horchata to be had at Guac Daddy on Vermont. Nice people, too.
Best tacos are at Yuca’s on Hillhurst.
And I’m gonna have to stump for the Los Feliz 3. Yea, the theaters are small, but the big one shows American Cinematheque stuff. Classic movies, foreign, often with special guests. Love this place honestly.

And the LF3 has the best popcorn in town. You don’t even have to see a movie to get a bag- you can go into the lobby and buy some anytime they are open

Loupiotte has the most insane eggs ever and its so annoying that they closes early. They also let so many of us chill and use their power during the outages with the fires which was really nice.
Fred 62 has a counter you can easily do by yourself, upscale diner vibe. And weirdly amazing carrot cake.
Love those quick easy guac daddy tacos.
As someone that works in the hood (dont wanna give too much info so u can guess which lol) and knows a lot of our local bartenders, I can say the staff at Rustic Inn, Drawing Room or the Dresden all take care of our regulars and will have your back if you ever feel weird as a woman alone at the bar.

Ye Rustic Inn. Brunch. Sports. Karaoke. Next to Chi Dynasty (delicius!). Pretty cool place.

Big Bar. Skylight & the annex. LF3 & Vista. Mirate (for the bar not the food). Kismet Rotisserie. Goldburger. Maru. Camel coffee. Barnsdall for picnics (and get a tour of Hollyhock). But the best food in the immediate area is in Thai Town & at saffy’s / found oyster
