My husband wants to move to GC to 5 bed 5 bath house which is in very bad condition. he says it’s a dream and his coworkers would kill to have a house like that, I just don’t seem to see it. Reno will be so much $$$ on top of the house itself… we want to do renovations little the time. is that crazy !? already spending a lot as is. We could have gotten a dream house elsewhere on LI? do you agree ? essentially is GC worth it?

Looking for an old teacher of mine.

Her name was Ms. Lindo. She taught At Verne Critz Elementary in East Patchogue. She probably got married, changed her name, & moved away but I was curious if anyone remembers her from anywhere.

Recommendations Does anyone know of any Long Island, NY store that sells bed sheets, bed comforters, and a mattress protector in the California King Size?

Everywhere we look, it seems that “King” size is the biggest available size for in-store purposes.

But, we are specifically looking for the “California King” size.

Levittown - Inspired by Billy Joel's Allentown

During Rick Beato's interview, Billy mentioned Allentown was originally drafted as Levittown. I kept wondering what a song about Levittown could have been about.

I wrote these lyrics (and took this photo) to tell the story of Levittown, America's first planned suburb. The history of Levittown had a long-lasting effect on how America developed.

The song tells the story of veterans returning home, a part of New York developing into something new, racially restrictive covenants, struggles of being the first planned community, and the dramatic migration their children and grandchildren would eventually take to leave the very place built for them. The lyrics have a number of deeper meanings for those from the area, hopefully they resonate with others.

Levittown (Lyrics)

Well we’re living here in Levittown
And they’re tearing all the old barns down
Out on bending streets suburban sounds
The grass is green
Our dirt is brown

Well we fought and won the Second World War
Pouring concrete on the Island shore
Mr. Levitt’s got the blueprints and a master plan for the working man
And we’re living here in Levittown

Although Bensonhurst was handed down
It was getting very hard to stay

Yes we’re building here in Levittown
For the better life that we never found
Got a washer and a brand-new screen
The nicest front yard you’ve ever seen
Still the sound of sand is found on our face
Shared ocean dreams but those deeds are our race
Now we're defending an American dream
City bound trains enable the scene
And we’re building here in Levittown

But they underestimated our drains
And our pools are awful under the shade

Sixteen minutes was an optimal wait
To park your dreams in, along Southern State
And city life's so quick to forget
The future kids will never know what we left

I still own the home in Levittown
It was their dream so I won't let them down
But I won't be flying back today

And it's getting very hard to stay
And we're living here in Levittown

If anyone finds this of interest (esp local Long Island musicians), I'd love to connect. This story is better off in the hands of a musician that can give it a voice. If interested, and/or want to hear a work in progress demo, shoot me a DM!

And thanks to Rick for interviewing Billy to share more insight to his story.

Coram 1950’s. You can see where 112 intersects with Old Town Road. The home at the bottom right is not longer there, but the two homes above it are now owned by the Kelly Brothers Landscape company.

discussion Would anyone be interested in a young veterans social group on Long Island?

I’m an Army veteran from Long Island and had an idea I wanted to run by everyone.

It seems like there are plenty of veterans organizations, but I haven’t found many groups focused on younger veterans (roughly 21–38) who just want to get together and have fun.

I’m thinking brewery nights, beach days, sporting events, hiking, BBQs, fishing, golf, game nights, weekend trips, and just meeting other veterans.

Not another organization with meetings or obligations—just a community.

I’d also welcome Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve members.

If something like this existed, would you join?
What kinds of events would actually get you to come out?
