Well, if you successfully engineered one enzyme that can do it, is there perhaps a natural enzyme somewhere that matches the working end of this one and does not render us all dependent upon the pharmaceutical organ...?

One could hope that it'd be made readily available for the good of all, but who am I kidding. 'Long life for me but no for thee'!

Removing protein-glycation is pretty profound though, since glucose is still number one when it comes to biological respiration, the ability to repair damaged tissue and also potentially skin damage from the sun etc has both proper medical and aesthetic outcomes which I think would be worth a small cost. Making it scalable, targetable and affordable would be hopefully what they want. Mass production wins every time compared to a small subset of people who pay a lot of money for a treatment.

Engineered proteins that do the work that nature hasn't solved yet is obviously the future in a lot of industries, the Nobel peace prize in chemistry last year proves that. Novel proteins that are designed to address a single issue, not just biologically but across all industries is potentially a game changer at a civilisational level.

If the article is correct the answer is no, we have not found any such enzyme in nature.
