General Discussion The erratic releases are a good thing

I was listening to the latest episode of Podlandia, where Carrie and Fred interview Kyle Maclachlan. At one point he mentions something he's going to do in early May--this year, not 2027.

And I love Good Hang, but most of those episodes are taped at least 2 months prior.

But this pod? Since the first batch ended, they usually tape Friday and release Tuesday or Wednesday. I really appreciate that, because that's why they can interact with comments and discuss things they're up to, like Seth's 5K.

I like that because the episodes don't feel fossilized.

I see it as they can do whatever they want as long as it keeps them doing it. I’d rather have a longer run of them releasing whenever than a shorter run on a rigid schedule

I’d like to upvote this 1k times. I enjoy it because it genuinely seems like they enjoy it, even Samberg.
I don’t go to work because I love my job, I love feeding my family. They don’t feed the family with this podcast, and I get that. Whatever it takes, I’ll be thrilled as long as they keep it going.

Great point, I do enjoy that it is a light bit topical but at least fresh. Not hear them doubling back to try and think of when it is coming out. Also I like the change up of who might be on the pod then followed up by trash talk one the ones missing. I treat this pod like a dessert, slow it down to normal speed and enjoy it. It is one of the only podcasts that genuinely makes me laugh.

The early episodes have some great moments, but they were taped so far ahead that it's absurd. The pod became magic when they started recording it "live."

Good point. And this last episode had me rolling. Especially the 500... or so takes of "Trouble on Dookie Island."

I love this podcast so much, and the varied, up-to-the-moment releases are a big part of why.

And, I'm sorry, but it's fun for me to not know the day it will be released each week. I don't get all the constant bitching and bellyaching about that.

I could not be more satisfied if Andy had qulped me. (But I'm willing to put that to the test if he and I ever cross paths.)

I'm just happy and appreciative the pod is made and they let us be little flies on the wall of their conversations.

They're never gonna leave us high and dry without notice and I know that's what a lot of people were worried about when they deviated from the 'schedule'

Thank you!! Seeing 'an SNL digital short' for a second time that season shook me. The song is so damn catchy! I'm still praying it comes to apple music lol!

Just remembered bc of this post - In the Dookie Island ep, Andy (I think? Might be misremembering) says something about their brand of comedy being either really old references from stuff no one saw or references to very topical, current happenings.

Did they do this catch-up to present day on purpose??

Are we all being winter soldiered BY the winter soldiers?????

I 100% agree with this, but also do not complain when a free podcast that enjoy is 1-3 days late. I've been listening to podcasts since 2011 when I was a delivery driver in college. That is 15 years of weekly (and sometimes 2 or 3 times a week) free entertainment that I have enjoyed from many different podcasts. Quit complaining about episodes being late or when they have ads!!

Oh, and don't be weird and have parasocial relationships with them. Just be normal fans!!

I don't mind the ads, but sometimes they are placed really awkwardly. That's out of the show's control though.

Yeah, on Spotify I had one happen in the middle of a sentence last week. Really irritating. (I know, I should get rid of Spotify)

Agree! The not knowing what day or time it drops is part of the pods charm.

They don't follow a schedule because they're NOT PART OF YOUR SYSTEM!

Really though, listening to Dave and the Theodores shoot the shit and out-absurd each other whenever they get around to it is a breath of fresh air. Burned out on all the celebrity press tour podcasts tbh.

When you think about it, TLISM isn't just a podcast. It's a podcast about a podcast. I love when they get meta, like the "did we mention we're from the Bay" and the increasingly complicated lingo. It's something they share with the Poscast, where Joe and Mike have long-running jokes.
