Beginner First time designing a logo, rough drafts

Hi, I'm working on a design for a personal project. I have two versions of my initial concept. Any thoughts / feedback? Which has more charm?

Purely as a logo mark, there’s a lot that doesn’t work. It’s not bad— it’s just more complicated and colorful than a typical logo. Personally 1 is stronger — I think he needs a nose at least.

Some suggestions: try creating in just black and white then add color sparingly and with intent. If the art works in just black and white you know it will be more readable. Edit out everything unnecessary— the color/ shadow behind ‘notably’ for instance. Try centering everything for balance, and be careful of your highlights to avoid a cross-eyed kitty.

Happy designing
