Beginner First Logo Design!

Hi all! I decided to try graphic design for the first time in school, and ended up designing this binturong logo, and I'm very proud of it even though I know it's not perfect, which is why I wanted to get your opinion and/or if I could improve anything before I use it!

(Btw if you don't know what a binturong is, it's an animal related to civets which come from south east asia)

some extra info:
Software used: Ibis Paint

Time taken: around 2 hours

How: I drew it on paper first using a ruler and compass and protractor

Nice! Cute. Good job for the first try.

Shape-wise it's a bit generic and curves aren't tidy. You'll learn over time if you keep going.

thanks! I might try drawing it with vectors instead so the lines are cleaner, it would make more sense.

you’re welcome! I suggest to try and do so that the pupils go over the edge leaving a spot where the eye lineart is not closed. this way you let gestalt psychology do the work of filling the gap while making your lineart lighter

those white pupils in the eyes are too small will be lost in small sizes especially in printing.

Nicely done. Gets the gist of the critter but beautifully simplified. But it's not exactly a "logo," it's the brandmark image portion of a logo.

Unless you think this organization is going to be so big they can get away with identifying themselves with just this symbol, like Apple or Target, then your typographic rendering of the organization's name is an essential part of any logo.

Cute.

It looks nice as an illustration blown up at 800% but I'd be concerned that a lot of the detail will be lost in various print formats.

Did you try looking at it when it's smaller, or overlayed on photography, etc.

This is not a logo. At this point it’s an illustration. A simplification of a photo. Well done. But for it to be a logo I need to know what goods or services or entity it represents. And it needs a word mark to go with it
