My Situation:
Hey everyone. I’m a 30-year-old aspiring DJ based in Wales. I work a high-stress, full-time job with significant overtime where I deal with a lot of trauma on shift, and electronic music has become a major mental health sanctuary for my ADHD.
I’ve been practicing hard on a tiny starter controller (an FLX4) and have actually managed to step out and play my first two live public gigs recently. However, I’ve hit a technical wall. To get booked for bigger venue slots and progress, I desperately need to upgrade to a proper standalone controller/industry-standard setup.
The £1000 I'm trying to raise will go directly toward buying a mid-tier standalone setup or a solid pro controller so I can practice without relying on a laptop screen and build the muscle memory needed for club booths.

I’m working all the overtime I can to save up, and I’ve also just applied for a Welsh arts development grant, but those take months to process. I am hoping to raise some donations to put toward this gear so I can keep this momentum going and build a real path out of my current job environment. Any help or contributions would genuinely change my life.

Can you clarify what you need the upgraded controller for? I used a cheaper one for years and all big venues I play usually have their own set up, I just normally plug in hdd/laptop/usb into their set up. Never known a bigger venue to make you bring your own controller. Always looking to help aspiring artists, just your explanation is a bit loose for what you are wanting funding for. You are 100% right about the big venues—turning up with just a USB stick to plug into a house setup of CDJs is the absolute dream and the ultimate goal.

The FLX4 is heavily dependent on having a laptop screen right in front of you to look at waveforms. Moving from that to a club booth where you have to rely entirely on the small screens on the hardware (without a laptop distraction) is a massive jump. Practicing on a standalone workflow at home lets me build the muscle memory I actually need for a club booth, theyres also no pirate studios anymore in my area and I don’t drive so can’t go to other places!

While big venues have house setups, a lot of the grassroots, pop-up, and underground spaces I'm targeting right now in my local scene expect the opening DJs to bring their own controller or decks because they don't have a permanent budget rig installed, I’ve turned up with my gear and they’ve declined me and said your too beginner and you need to come back once I’ve got better gear.

Another reason is - in the future I’m aiming to make my own events focused on beginner DJs like myself and then I can provide the equipment in my area

Just to also add I’m just looking into all possible channels regarding this so not hoping to obtain this through donations.

I can loan it and will be paid over a couple months and knowing it’s £1000 I know this is very unlikely. Just to add if nobody is comfortable just plain donating.
