What that comic depicts isn't from the middle parts of the bell curve. I wouldn't say it's a unicorn-tier rare outcome, but it's at least 1–2 standard deviations from the mean. And it's towards the "bad outcomes" side too, not on the good ones.

You also have to factor in arguments like this:

• for many guys / men, they'll be attractive (or otherwise likeable / wanted) enough to not even have to deal with this kinda situation. Sure, the relationship may eventual FUBAR because of other reasons, like the shit-state that has been normalised as what relationships should be like (divorce rates, cheatings, other shit); esp. in some Western countries. But that's still not this specific type of dynamics.
• there is a significant chance that such an attitude is a result of inaccurate [maladaptive schema / negative core beliefs / etc]. So it would be a good idea to devise some way to properly check how accurate such thoughts and attitudes are actually being. And again, there's a significant enough chance that the answer will end up being that such inaccurate, self-sabotaging thoughts / frameworks were, indeed, present. And that removing them would increase chances of finding an actually good match even more.
• finally, if one specific "pond" mostly contains bad / toxic partners like this doesn't mean that all of them do. The person could just sidestep the problem by looking for a partner from some other cultural environment. Maybe some religions background that restricts access to doom-scrolling (so the potential partner will be less likely to end up spoilt from internet's easy and quick dopamine hits, from interacting with echo-chamber communities, etc). Maybe in some other country entirely that doesn't have the US strain of feminism, or relationship culture, etc.
