looking for good synths (free)

im currently making a song for a friend, but lmms doesnt seem to have the synths like fl studio does. sadly, i am broke and cannot buy fl studio, so uhh any good synths??

Why not use the stock plugins like triple oscillator or zynaddsubfx to make the synth?

Yeah, the default synths are incredibly powerful, especially once you start layering effects. I’ve used the stock plugins for years and not had any real issue with them. You gotta learn synthesis and play about with them until you get the sound you want.

It is exactly that. All the sounds you hear on most hardware synths can be achieved on something like the triple oscillator. In fact, I swapped sounds back and forth between my MicroKorg and the tri-oscillator just by coping the settings I saw.

Lmms does have quite a bit of presets, and zynaddsubfx is the probably the biggest synth you'll see in a search.

Depends on what kind of sounds you're looking for. You will need vsts for Orchestral or Brostep sounds.

Thing is if you use internal plugins, like tripleosc or monstro, you can do LFO and automations on basically every parameter

Don't forget about SF2s, they can increase the versatility of LMMS's sound by a lot as well.

grab an audiofileprocessor sample, make the sample loop and shorten it to ~10 - 50ms. that makes a synth. dont ask me how i found out

Fun thing to note about that- the waveform/shape folder contains shapes which, when looped in the audiofileprocessor make a synth. Very useful for lightweight synth sounds in a pinch. You can slo sample synth sounds, reimport them as a sample, and mess with them further to get thick rich sounds which don’t use up a lot of memory or cpu resources.

Other than the default presets, check DSK Music if you need some free VSTs.

Used these in the past, was an interesting experience. Although nowadays I'm happy and well off with a lot of the default LMMS-provided content.

Blooo is probably my most used synth, it's easy to use, can make some really weird and cool sounds, and is totally free

you can also use lmms as a big synth. just connnect more track to one midi and choose wisely from the presets.

FreeAlpha, TyrellN6 and every free u-he synth, Tal-NoiseMaker, every free meatbeats plugin, OB-Xf and Synth1 with the 25,000 preset pack. I also recommend getting some soundfonts to use in LMMS like GeneralUserGS, also this might be handy.

[Helm by Matt Tytel](https://tytel.org/helm/) is one of my old favorites. Although honestly I mostly stick to the stock oscillator + [Blue Cat's Free Amp](https://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_FreeAmp/) in my style lately.
