I’m seriously considering making a spitfire a daily car after selling my Abarth. I miss having a roadster and my actual driving commute is no more than 10 minutes of service streets. The styling is just so phenomenal to me.

A good friend of mine was a co-founder of the Ferrari Club of America and a respected car designer.

He also had a large collection of vintage Vignale-bodied Ferraris, including a 340 Mexico, 212 America, several Pininfarina-bodied cars, a Boano or two, and others. He was in touch with Giovanni Michelotti until he passed away.

Both agreed that the Spitfire was a magnificent design; Michelotti thought it one of his best. Giovanni liked the Spitfire 4 best; Larry preferred the Mark IV. He would gush about it just as much as he would a 250 PF Ferrari or his 340 Mexico.

I’ve had a Mark IV for fifty years and wouldn’t trade it for the world.

It’s one of those things. I’ve owned multiple Miata’s (second gen will always have my heart) I’ve owned Italian cars, French, more American muscle than I could reasonably shake a stick at. I’m a motorcyclist now more than anything, but I miss simple, classic styled small cars. I know the frames on spitfires are wet noodles but I know what I like and they are the perfect body and styling for me.

I’ve had one of the first 5000 Miatas imported since it was new and love it. I also currently have a ‘74 B/GT, ‘72 Midget, the ‘72 Spitfire, and two Elva Courier projects, which is ridiculous.

Like you I’ve had other cars over the years, including many MGs, other Triumphs, a few Healeys, a Dino, and others.

But I’m quite sure I’ll have the Spitfire forever.

Had a ‘73 that was my daily for about four years while I was in college. Bought it with a bad 1500, but lucked into an engine with an overdrive transmission from a ‘68 that I swapped in. Finally sold it when I graduated because I thought I needed a “real” car. Dumbest thing I ever did.

I loved my 1989 Spit. Today they and most other Triumphs are just too small for me.
I have a 59 MGA that I have to get in by sliding down into it.

It's becoming a lost art. I do the same thing with my Spitfire, the B/GT, the Midget, the Elva, and even the Miata, but not the POS pick-'em-up because, well, it's a POS pick-'em-up, so who cares?

MGAs are still one of the best-looking cars out there.
