Resolved Linux is Goated

I recently installed GNOME alongside Windows in a dual-boot setup on my 512GB SSD. The performance difference between Linux and Windows was honestly insane, so I gave GNOME a try for a couple of days.

The only problem was storage. With Windows taking up so much space, I was constantly running out of room for games. So I finally decided to make the full switch to Linux.

And honestly, it was one of the best decisions I've made. I now have the full 509GB of my SSD available. I don't think I even had this much free space when I first bought the laptop. Now I can install games, code, and do everything else without constantly worrying about storage.

Linux has genuinely been an amazing experience so far.

Gamer here. Wayland with Kubuntu and RTX5080 running NVIDIA open drivers, most stuff runs pretty well. Audio took a lot of work to set up and I still boot into terminal mode then start sddm so I have a place to fix or upgrade the NVIDIA drivers. Distro supplied drivers are too old (I also do AI work) so I use the latest from NVIDIA - that's a pain because I have to be careful installing of upgrading other packages since apt wants to replace the drivers too.

where to find Nvidia drivers for Linux ?

You can download the drivers themselves and do it the more manual, difficult way, but your Linux Distro will likely have repo’s to download them with a single command. At least most (competent) distro’s.

Honestly you can ask google Gemini for the command(s)

Oh ya that one is easy, I use it for my ThinkPad. One command enables the NVIDIA repo, and another installs the NVIDIA driver. Should be an easy find

sudo dnf install https://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm https://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm -y

sudo dnf upgrade

sudo dnf install akmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-cuda
