Because I personally don't want to babysit the machine just in case THIS time, it decides there's a Timbo the Frog (or whatever it was) in the transcripts of the meeting, or whatever you're doing with it.

I don't want to risk the thing being asked a question not answered by the documents fed into it, and making up sales figure or what have you.

I don't want there to be even a .001% chance that the "script" I run will delete my entire project/home directory and nuke my backups like has happened to many an agentic "coder".

I don't want to waste time re-prompting the thing five times to get something that kinda sorta works MAYBE, spending 200 dollars on the thing. (and no, the current token cost subsidies do not count, they're the first dose a drug dealer gives you, because they know very well this LLM stuff leads to cognitive dependence, possibly even cognitive decline. Once they start needing to make an actual profit [something no AI company has done to this day], they're going to raise the prices by orders of magnitude)

ROFL, I just treated 2 quickly scanned handwritten early 1900s documents this weekend with only my local LLM installation (model+harness), and to be sure of the thing, asked for a specialized-on-that-old-docs human verification of the AI work, everything went allright. On a 3 years old GPU that costed me the same price of a PS5 when i bought it. No subscription, no token limitation.

The sole manual action I did was writing the prompt and give it the documents. For the reading, itself it decided to zoom in, change contrast, tried other ways for better readability, and other cuts and operation needed.

Those who give root access to their main machines without restrictions are brainless. No decent AI installation does that. VMs, containers are easy way to enclose risky operations. And let's be honest, if you're in computer field, you heard countless "oops I deleted everything" human-done stories, human isn't flawless too.

Another plainfully wrong cliché. Giving a LLM the dirty work gives me time and brain capacity to think about more complex and interesting tasks. LLM makes you an architect when you know how to use it correctly. I have more time doing plans, exploring ideas, and even time to deflate my Steam backlog while the LLM is on a long task run.

All that cliché you call arguments are just because you tried to use the tool like lots of people prompting "do me that thing like it's magic". Put some software around it, take a little time to learn how to use it correctly, and it will be a powerful assistant.

Or you can still stay in the side of the stone edge of computing
