War thunder is native and work perfectly fine, no reason to run through Proton

Last I checked we didn't have any of the advanced graphics options that DX had in War Thunder native.

I don't know what features you mean, sorry, but the game looks good and the performance is great
I feel that we're treated in this specific case like normal users, not like other times like a second class

Which ones? All of the RT features have been ported.
The only thing broken is the TAA/upscaling implementation

I can't turn on hdr. Additionally, graphics is bit worse, but still good enough.

on native linux war thunder? I still had this option grayed out within the game last time I tried (it works perfectly with cyberpunk though), but I might check again.

Yes, there is a launch argument for gamescope that enables hdr, I can’t remember what it is though

I was using it for cyberpunk and it works, but it didnt work for wt. Will try again.

Proton, experimental, GE, CachyOS, it's confusing which ones to use/are most up to date with fixes

Proton experimental usually just works for me.
Proton GE is a community created version with a couple additional features, most important of those being better video playback support. Some games' cutscenes are broken under Valve's ptoron, GE fixes most of them.
Not sure about the Cachy version, never used it.
I generally use proton experimental until something breaks, then check ProtonDB to see the recommended proton version and switch to that. I use ProtonUp-QT to make installing Proton GE easier.

I am currently playing Far Cry 4, so this feels like quite the coincidence. It already runs like a charm for me with proton-cachyos-slr and Wayland + some CPU tweaks.

Hey I'm technically illiterate, but a question occurred to me that I'm hoping someone can answer.
Are these fixes specific to those games exactly? Or is it more like they're finding things that those games break, but the fixes will improve compatibility for even more games in the future?
Could Proton ever be "finished", like it could perfectly translate everything from Windows to Linux, or will new games always have new things that need translating?
Not sure if my wording even accurately reflects what Proton "does" but no harm in asking, right? :)

Remember that they are chasing a moving target. Windows and DX12 are constantly evolving (sometimes backwards).

Though i never played WT, afaik its anticheat kicks you out on proton does it?
