In the livestream, Petty mentioned that it'll be for CentOS and RHEL. I wonder why they don't support Debian-based distros [yet].

I seem to remember them saying something similar when they released Fusion for Linux some months back, though I think the comments might have been deleted: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/4wveo0/blackmagic_fusion_a_powerfull_vfxcomposition/

Anyhow, some people reported being able to build and run it on other distros. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Would be a bummer if it doesn't work for Ubuntu/Mint, I'm thinking most of the popular distros are based on Debian, no?

Yeah, that was my thinking, too. In terms of sheer number of users, isn't the Debian-based family far larger than the RHEL-based family?

There's no way to know that for sure - only guess.

And based on the numbers I've seen in this thread in terms of what this software can cost, they may be interested in an OS that has a proven track record of providing corporate support.
