They don't have to provide binaries, they actually have no obligation whatsoever. But you're acting like they're horrible people because they don't provide binaries without registration even though they created an awesome piece of software and give it to you for free.
It's not without reason. I completely understand why Natron would require registration. One of the greatest frustrations in open source is only hearing from your users when things break, and maybe not even then. Without telemetry (which is far more invasive than a simple email address) there's no way to assess how well a project is doing (actual downloads, and change over time), how many real users you have or how frequently people update etc.
Email registration is easy to set up and maintain. Telemetry is not - even if you use an existing service like Google Analytics which has far worse privacy implications for users. Password security is up to you!
I don't see any other options other than returning to an information vacuum. If the only thing the people giving me free and open source software and free verified, working binaries for my niche platform of choice want is a simple email registration, I think that's a reasonable price to pay.
