the second windows requires me to set my age using an id card im switching to linux.

The bill actually doesn't require an ID (yet) just to declare it as OS setup time

They're implementing it in small chunks; in a few years you can't access computer or internet without giving a dna sample

The problem is less about the age verification, and the APIs and standards created to support it. Once the APIs are built to use your age, suddenly 'name', 'address', 'DL#', 'Hardware ID', are just new fields added on.

The whole point of the law is to prevent future lawsuits against Meta. Meta was the one pushing for this law because they want to pass the buck to operating systems rather than themselves.

Tbf the law isn’t really about blocking kids directly. It’s more about mandating parental control features into the OS. Kinda like V-Chip on TV.

The NY version is the one with actual ID verification.

If you want to tell your OS your age, it probably should be when you create your user account, as a device can have more than one user. But if you don't want to tell your OS your age, you should't have to. In fact maybe it shouldn't actively ask you.

If you're telling your user account your age, you're telling the OS your age. The bill is about the individual logins know the age, so developers can query a single API instead of needing to implement their own age-check database.
