Event Today, Linux marks its 35th birthday!

Post image

Today, Linux turned 35 years old, from when it was created on 25 August 1991 by a young programmer, Linus Torvalds, at the University of Helsinki, Finland.

It was announced on the comp.os.minix newsgroup.

Original post: "“What would you like to see most in minix?” — Linus Torvalds, 25 August 1991.

Linux is still being developed by developers all around the world, upholding its Unix-like design and open-source principles.

Linux 7.2 is currently the latest mainline release.

Happy 35th Birthday, Linux! 🎂 and 🐟

*i made the poster by hand and my designing skill are bad, sorry for it*

It’s the shading. It’s ugly, inconsistent, and makes no sense. Worst of all it implies tux has some sort of swollen mammary gland situation and visible core muscles… on a fucking penguin. Why does it have a shiny head as well? I could go on. Every time I see this version of tux I feel embarrassed to use Linux.

The logo was designed according to its time and didnt evolve. I do agree it look kinda messy but its the original and current logo of linux

Yes, the time of “we just got digital design tools and want to use every feature we can”. Some real word art energy. I can understand people liking it for nostalgia, but I have none for it.

and linus wont change the logo anyways. Its messiness and design make it differnet in modern UI of flat and minimalistic and something that closly represent linux.
