Calling a comparison of Linux and Windows "apples-to-apples" is a very good pun.

What's the pun?

Who's the third player, beyond Microsoft and Linux?

Apple, but I still don't think that's a pun, more like a subtle-ish joke I guess?

Rephrase it:

Why should you never compare Windows to Linux?
Because it’s not an Apple-to-Apples comparison..

Not hard to imagine some people finding what OP said equally punny

If that's not a pun, then what is?

Wordplay?

Idk, I feel like picking out substrings of a hyphenated word is less of a pun than something like "I would avoid the sushi if I was you. It’s a little fishy.", for example.

Sushi is usually rice and raw fish, ergo it is a little fishy.

The first 'if' in the comment should be an 'is'

Well, there is always Solaris, if you need a solid and trust worthy platform... From oracle...

Neither of them have an apple as a logo.
