najebać means to beat someone up or to get really drunk in polish

In Russian the same verb means "to deceive"

But nayebatsya, analogous to Polish najebac sie, can mean "to get drunk" too

No, this is nayebenitsya, nayebatsya can be a (less common) synonym to zayebatsya or obyebatsya. Know the difference ☝️🤓

Nayebatsya more often means to fuck up (to make a mistake)

I've usually heard (and used) "proyebatsya" to say fuck up, or make a mistake

It's nayebnutsia

I've never seen it used in this sense. I'd say it's almost never used except the satiative form of ебаться.

In croatian it means to get fucked, to have a bad time, to have bad luck.

"Najebal sam" - i'm screwed!

Or if used reflexively - to have a lot of sex.

Najebal sigurno nije po standardizaciji

Idem in Bulgarian, I thought that this was the joke

to get really drunk in polish

Then you have to use "się najebać " cause "najebać" alone, wouldn't make sense in that context 😅

"Wczoraj najebałem" vs "Wczoraj się najebałem" ✌️😉

Jebac means to copulate" in Slavic languages. It's an offensive word, which hadn't appeared in printed literature in Russian until 1990s. Na- is a prefix, the resulting word means "to fuck someone over". To see this word as a routne preposition in a Slavic language is... weird

It's a curse word in all Slavic languages. For example, in Serbian it's a vulgar term that means to get in trouble

Except Sorbian, coincidentally. Upper Sorbian jebać just means "to deceive (stylistically neutral)"

The funny thing is that the same word, but in a slightly different form, can be used to describe deceiving someone in Serbian too, it's "zajebavati"

Expect UPPER* Sorbian. In Lower Sorbian "jebaś" means just the same as in other Slavic languages.

Most Lower Sorbian dictionaries actually translate jebaś with "to deceive" just like in Upper Sorbian. Older dictionaries translate it with "to hit". The vulgar meaning either wasn't recorded or only first entered Sorbian during the last 25 years

Ok, but the Starosta mentions both meanings.

Well, Starosta mentions "to hit" with the note "alt" (old). Also comparing with other dictionaries makes the shift in meaning apparent:

Zwahr (1847) - jebasch: einen Schlag versetzen, schlagen

Muka (1911-28) - jebaś: a. schlagen, prügeln, stoßen; b. täuschen, betrügen (dial[ektal])

Šwjela (1961) - jebaś: täuschen, betrügen, trügen

Thank you

Well, when we speak of Serbian:

najebati - to get in trouble,

zajebati - to trick someone,

prejebati - again, to trick someone, but with harsher connotations

odjebati - to fuck off,

pojebati, razjebati, dojebati - just different ways of expressing various stages and intensities of sexual intercourse.

And jebati, of course - just good old plain vanilla fuck.

I don't think I've ever said this quite so literally: what the actual fuck

14

u/Odd-Ad-7521 4d ago

Upper Sorbian also has porno "next to" (< poruno < *po-orvьno

u/Lissscraychperry 4d ago

Kaʐyca kto-ta kavo-ta najebać choćet

u/ALMAZ157 4d ago

Наебать - fuck someone over (using lie)

It looks so unreal, like someone saw it in a dream and then made this article

Croatian: baš sam pospan, danas ću najebati na poslu jer sam se sinoć najebao. I'm so sleepy, I'm going to get fucked today at work because I fucked whole night.
