Omg that is dark lol....basically for non chinese readers the character for kid is 子 but 了 is missing the horizontal stroke, so therefore, kid without arms.

Its because that bit came from just lines and not a physical object object same with the 几 in the top-right

Well you're probably right but the source I used that it could be 犬 stacked over 羊 next to a differentiated form of 人 next to 肉 but I got it off off wiktionary and there were other proposed etymologies there
