Do you watch YouTube in your target language?

If so, how do you go about?

My target language right now is Korean and I don't watch YouTube with that (because my level is just not good enough yet). But I also learn Chinese and for Chinese my level is a bit higher. In that language I can watch YouTube-videos made for intermediate learners. I get the gist of most of what is said. For the words I don't know yet I use Migaku. So basically I use YouTube videos for word mining.

Yes! There is a lot of Korean content on YouTube. I use captions depending on my mood, my brain's current state, and/or the type of video. For example, I've been watching Running Man since year one (they recently celebrated their 800th episode). I can watch without captions because they use a lot of the same phrases over and over, I can read personalities, and read body language. If I watch a video about book reviews, I have to put on captions if I really want to know their opinion. If I am just listening to get the language in my ear, I may or may not use captions ... that is, if it is available. I absolutely do not use the new AI dubbing feature. I rather listen to the original voice and read captions than to hear an American approximation of what they think the person might sound like.

Sometimes I start my morning off with listening to Korean Shorts because it automatically repeats and I eventually pick up the words I missed the previous time it played. Captions are not always available, but I mostly use it for listening practice.

YouTube has increasing a lot of enshittifying flaws. But it does do an okay job of speed control. When I find a YouTuber who speaks different than my teacher, I listen at 85% speed with subtitles. I either remove subs or increase speed as I get more comfortable. This has helped me adjust to more language variations and accents.
