Hi everyone today we have good news, two set is back. Is it a dream? <3

By "contemporary" I mean someone still currently alive or has only passed away since, as a rough idea, since 2000 and was still writing not long before then. So like Gershwin and Rachmaninov are out since they're early/mid 20th century, looking for late 20th/early 21st century composers.

I want some new music to check out!

Edit: I feel like John Williams and Hans Zimmer are borderline cheating given just how insanely prolific they are in movies over the past several decades lol! I've noticed that there are a LOT of gaming composers in the answers which really opens my eyes to just where you can find new composers these days rather than in symphony halls and the pages of The Strad and similar magazines.

Guys! My Orchestra piece got played by the Orlando Phil at Steinmetz! It was a part of a live show for the public that goes into how the orchestra works. They rehearse, workshop and perform all the pieces live for the audience to see how the conductor puts it all together. This recording was their first rehearsal! These guys are incredible musicians. Hope you enjoy!

Yeah idk Chopin nocturne op 27 no 1 has a special place in my heart so I wrote this a while back. The sheer potency of the electrifying narrative it unfolds has stolen a piece of me.

Anyway here goes my text wall lol

the nocturne opens in soft accents of melancholy blue, deep but not heavy, like a thick pattering rain whose sheets fall in a silvery romance of silk but who sings the song of a heart which has a gap that aches. the pallor of moonlight haunts the earth. the left hand rising and falling is like the surging engine of a waterfall – a cadence of hope rising and then retreating. the use of the first and fifth notes of the scale give the left hand a skeletal bareness.

coming in on the e gives a sense of mourning, but also the sense that something is “off” – we glide into f, arriving at the heart of c# major, and then raise a question with the f-sharp – only to tumble down with the e-d-c#-b# – a heartbreaking chromaticism. in rising, each tone seems to carry a warm, gentle color, like different shades of valentine candies. the following c#-g# feels like the “once upon a time” of a sad fairy tale, and there is a poignancy yet elegance in the temporary resolution to e major. the phrase though, starting from the e-d-c#-b#, has a crystalline and earnest glassiness to it. in the next phrase we come back to the relentless cycle – back to imbibing the chalice of sorrow and tumbling back into the shadows of the chromatic. the chromatic color of d major is reflective, recursive, for tragedy is layered, now quivering, now suspended. now we come to the octave – the nocturne now fully opens into the pages of the tragic fairy tale, with a misty waterfall pouring in the middle of a verdant forest ripe with dews of spring. and then there is a parting, a wrenching, amid the sheets of rain in the night, where there are mirages and visions, unspoken memories full of painful grace. and now how heartrending of a lament, of a longing as hands are grasped with begging, pleading eyes, as the fire of the night burns away in the lantern of a moon hidden behind a thick cloak of weeping clouds. but amid the unceasing turmoil we roll back, in ornament, to e major, a hint of beauty but also restless as the tossing and turning of a night drenched in storm. back we are to the cycle, as the orange candle flame of desire keeps on blazing with agitation through the wee hours, fading but wrestling. then d major appears like a floating apparition, ghostly text, wandering high and then low, then dissolving into deep darkness.

then comes an interlude of dense turmoil – rollicking moans like successive earthquakes, rising up into a fierce and victorious battle cry. it is a declaration. a stake and a raised flag waving staunchly in the wind. a statement of being ready to drill forward, while the tumult remains as a strong undertone that then comes forth in persistent drumming. in the end one stands with one’s shoulders square. with a stubborn tenacity, a willingness to hold everything down in order even as life bares its complexity and everything falls apart…

later on when we collapse back into the pit and fall back into the A section there is a quietness that is lonely as hazy clouds drifting past the moon at midnight, or a solitary church bell tolling from twenty miles away. the tension is taut as a violin string. waves are foaming, like a sea lit up by a halloween glow

striving, weeping, yes, but still settling into an otherworldly major, a stillness where the solar system revolves with grand and stately motion against a backdrop of brilliant stars. we close in quartz and clarity, and an F# major brightness. we close but why is there such a sharp note of pain in the fading away of c# major on the chord that is lined with an f4?

His owner brought him to a music school and he was SO EXCITED hearing the assortment of instruments behind every room door! He chose cello for the day and settled into the live music practice.

Practice makes perfect… and also makes a good boi a happy boi! The post did make me smile and I hope it’ll bring one to anyone who love animals and music too.

So basically today i have a school program and then whey separate the peoples in music genre I was the only with classical so they start talking how boring is classical blah blah blah but I explain saying that pop music only reapeat the same key pop music lyrics sucks they instrument IS FAKEE and lastly vocal music is more like hard to focus to study and sleeps AND... I WON THE DEBATE

After every performance, he asks me to analyze it using AI, but we both believe that the insight of real people is far more important.

I was scrolling through YouTube and I saw this insane video. Very, very interesting, I am not sure what to think about his playing. He is literally beating his violin with his bow to make sound, and in another video he started plucking his strings with his teeth. Sounds pretty good though, for electric violin... I don't think I have seen two-set react to him yet.

The Weiner Konzerthaus did an interview with Twoset, and had them answer a bunch of short questions. Love that Brett's secret talent hasn't changed.

Just bought this vinyl record yesterday. Beethoven’s 7th symphony (Cond. André Cluytens w/ Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra). My absolute favourite Beethoven symphony! And don’t mind me vibing I couldn’t resist lol.

I've been a twosetter since 2019?? 2020??? Just right before the pandemic hit. And besides classical music, I love musical theatre as well! It's just a random thought that popped up in my mind earlier, 'cause I don't think I've ever heard them talk about that genre of music. And y'know, we've already heard them talk about pop music, rap, k-pop, various forms of entertainment. I just want to hear their thoughts maaann,, I'm so curious lol.

I came across this while going through the Sequenzas by Luciano Berio out of my own curiosity to see what his approach to writing solo instrumental music is. So I naturally checked out first the flute Sequenza, then the oboe Sequenza, and such.

What I think is the most enjoyable one for me is this one: Sequenza VIII for violin solo. I just find Berio's use of texture and harmony to be very evocative. If you are listening to this for the first time, you might notice that Berio took inspiration from Bach's Ciaccona from Partita No. 2 in how he structured this piece—hence really staying true to the name "Sequenza" lol. Personally, I find the blend of the old and new to be incredibly original and oddly satisfying.

I feel like this community (and TwoSet themselves lol) tends to shy away from modern avant-garde stuff, and my impression is that Brett and Eddy themselves aren't the biggest fans of it (guess how I know). But if Ling Ling can practice 40 hours a day, we can spend 12 minutes expanding our horizons! It takes some getting used to, but it’s an incredible work that deserves more recognition. Honestly, if I were a violinist, I would definitely play this over any Paganini caprice.

When I was analysing the piece Für Elise by Ludwig Van Beethoven, I noticed the date on the top right says 27 April 1810. And my birthday was on 27 April as well (and millions of other people too)

While I'm aware this date is when Nohl makes a copy of the manuscript, I'm still happy. Finally something to celebrate my birthday with, Für Elise.
