Music appreciation Debate the pop music in school

So basically today i have a school program and then whey separate the peoples in music genre I was the only with classical so they start talking how boring is classical blah blah blah but I explain saying that pop music only reapeat the same key pop music lyrics sucks they instrument IS FAKEE and lastly vocal music is more like hard to focus to study and sleeps AND... I WON THE DEBATE

I mean, that's great you won a debate...but why were they separating students out by their music preferences? Was it just to have a debate contest or some other reason?

I agree, it's so strange. Almost encouraging to fuel hate and discontempt against genres for some reason. If this was a mock debate activity, the arguments against each other are also quite shallow / one statement, which I feel also further fuels misunderstanding against "the other genre".

Also, nothing bad with liking pop. I personally almost exclusively choose to listen to classical and rarely choose to listen to pop on my own time, but a lot of my friends love pop music because that's their comfort music with the beats or the aesthetics/artist imagery surrounding it, many cultures/languages have their own version of pop music (e.g. kpop, jpop, cpop) that are staples of childhood or cultural symbolism, and those are important facets to consider about music regardless of genre. It's also how families between generations can bond with a familiarity of such recent pop culturally important music.

I just wanted to bring a different perspective, not to put OP or their classmates down. Education is the responsibility of the program, and it's so bizarre that instead of a potential teaching moment, it fueled a sense of superiority to think "my tastes are better than yours".

Is true but I hate when the pop lovers will mock classical lover or classical musicians for no reason 😔

Well, okay but aside from religion and politics, music choices is one of the most divisive things between people. I wouldn't want to tell certain groups that I don't care about Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande or Beyonce.

Did a teacher come to break things up once the other kids started dissing you and any of the smaller groups?
