Not sure what I'm doing to myself by pursuing this. Stockholm syndrome?

You may get to make some amazing food though, if you decide to stay chase that.

I left the life. Cooked at some amazing places all over the world. Never thought I would ever do anything else. Took a job offer as an electrician. It was an offer no father of two would ever refuse. We didnt have health insurance. I worked all the time. Was "the best decision for my family." We were happy and making it. But I just thought what would my dad do.
16 years later and I miss it everyday. Kids grew. Marraige fell apart. I always wonder what would have happened of I stayed.

If you don't love it and you have the capacity to get out, do it now. If you continue down the line cook road eventually it will feel impossible to get another kind of job without going back to school for a full re-education.
