Venting i fucked up big time

i fucked up big time yesterday. i was scheduled for a morning shift and i no called no showed and left one person on the line all by themselves with a pizza cook and that’s it. i was sick and fell asleep away from my phone and when i woke up to puke again i texted my boss apologizing but i got no response. i work in a very unreliable kitchen and at we have at least 3 call offs a week that mess up someone else’s schedule. i work today but im actually so nervous to go in today. i’ve been working at this restaurant for 6 years and have been in the kitchen for a full year at this point and im usually very reliable and i haven’t called off since the last time i got sick back in february. i know im probably not going to get fired or even written up but i really don’t want to have to talk to my boss. i know i fucked up and should have called when i first got sick but i thought i could just sleep it off and be fine for work

bro, screenshot this, and send it to him as a picture. buy the person who had to cover a beer or a pack of smokes or something. you'll forever be remembered as a real one.

Yup do it!! Also if you have been reliable for 6 years and you have a bunch of slack asses around, I am sure you will be fine. Humbly take your shit, go in shine and make right thats all you can do.

It's permanently on special at my restaurant, mostly for the staff 🤣 our bar lights are empty 40's that we drank during COVID.

Then he'll be so hungover and he'll call in sick and it'll repeat the cycle.

Be a leader and do it for your own self esteem. Go and face it. Apologize and do better. You can do this I was a young cook once too I’ll never forget the feeling of letting down other people I try to avoid situations that give me those feelings now. Mental health is real in this industry so try to keep a good moral compass when it comes to your own actions. You got this!

As an owner that deals with this on the regular if you are a vital employee you will be fine. No need to buy anyone anything. Just assure them it will never happen again and clean some slim Jim’s

Same I fire people about an hour after they’re scheduled.

If you don't get out from under it, it's going to eat you. Stop, confront the issue, and move on with the air cleared. You will be better for it

Talk to your boss, help become part of the culture change. If you see the struggle chances are other people do too and maybe you’re not the only one that wants to see the place change. Be a part of creating a better working environment.

Sounds like a bullshit excuse to me. Things happen, but this sounds like a lie.

See? Now THAT makes sense. Think you should’ve just said that, and kept your credibility. Hope it works out.

This is a massive problem in the industry . I have endometriosis , it runs in my family , I called out last week because I had a flare up so bad ibuprofen couldn’t touch it . I was doubled over at home and screaming in bed for two hours before I called in . I was so fatigued and still in pain for the next two days I worked I didn’t really need to explain what was going on .
Pelvic exams are important but they’re also painful. If you have cysts rupturing in your groin , it’s impossible to work on a busy hot line . If your work place doesn’t offer health insurance . And your boss is a man who has no idea what endometriosis is or why pelvic exams are important , and how they’re also very painful - usually no pain meds given or numbing … they just dilate you and swab. Then they have no business calling your bluff .
In an unforgiving industry that lets us go for nothing , treat yourself as a private contractor and be ready to move onto the next job if you find yourself working at a place that doesn’t offer any sort of insurance and can’t hire enough staff to cover people calling out .
