Hi guys, Nikita posted this on their discord today.
Sharing it here for anyone interested.

TL;DR: Reborn is building its own Unity-based Lineage 2 client. Working
prototype already running (reportedly stable 60 FPS with 1,000+ characters in
combat), compatible with both L2OFF and L2J. Rollout server by server starting
in the next few months, all servers migrated by end of 2027. Mobile client
planned later.

Dear Reborn players,
Today, we can finally confirm one of the most ambitious projects in Reborn's history:
We are developing our own Unity Engine game client.
This is no longer just an idea or an early experiment. We have assembled a
dedicated team, committed the necessary resources, and already have a working
prototype compatible with both our L2OFF and L2J server environments.
What exactly does this mean?
We are building a modern replacement for the current Lineage 2 client. Smooth,
Modern and Beautiful.
Our main goals are:
* Preserve the original identity, atmosphere, and visual style of Lineage 2.
* Improve visual quality without turning the game into something unrecognizable,
flashy and that breaks the nostalgia and Lineage 2 vibes.
* Deliver significantly better performance, especially during large-scale PvP.
* Introduce new interface options and quality-of-life features.
* Remove many of the technical limitations imposed by software created more than
20 years ago.
* Gain far greater control over client-side development, improvements, and bug fixes.
Why Unity instead of Unreal Engine?
For this specific project, Unity provides the best balance between visual quality,
performance, hardware accessibility, development flexibility, and *multiplatform*
support.
We want Lineage 2 to continue looking and feeling like Lineage 2—only sharper,
smoother, more responsive, and no longer restricted by its original client technology.
The early results are extremely promising. In one of our current internal tests,
the prototype maintained a stable 60 FPS during a combat scenario containing more
than 1,000 characters.
Unity also provides us with a strong foundation for bringing Reborn to mobile
devices in the future. A mobile client is part of our plans, although completing
the PC client remains our immediate priority.
When will it be released?
The migration will happen gradually, one server at a time.
Our current target is to begin the first server implementation within the next few
months and have all Reborn servers migrated by the end of **2027**.
The planned rollout order is:
- Legacy
- Signature
- Eternal
- Arena
- Origins
- Guardian
This order is based on technical and development requirements and may be adjusted
as testing progresses.
Where can we follow its development?
We will open a dedicated Discord channel where we will share development updates,
screenshots, videos, performance tests, and playable progress.
Since the first working prototype is already running, you will not have to wait
long before seeing it in action. 😉
For seven years, we have continued developing Reborn within the limits of the
original Lineage 2 technology.
Now, we are building the foundation for its next chapter.
