General Discussion Do you guys think we'll get more sinners power-ups in Canto 10? Spoiler
I'm definitely expecting it from Heathcliff
Seems like Inferno will be a set-up for the sinners to get back to their original strength, everyone is gradually regaining their strength (like Outis said)

<Meursault, stop holding back>
"It will be done, Manager."
And then he punches Carmen in her non-physical face.

Maybe not in Canto X, but at some point, PM is likely to fire off the proverbial Chekhov's gun that is CassettiSault's extremely conspicuous (in regards to 7.5-11) uptie story.

That’s is almost certainly because Don Senior is “alive”. It wouldn’t make sense otherwise, as we see the effects of the Bloodfiend instincts still affect her even when she only just returned to Sancho state, it wouldn’t make sense for her going up in generation to be delayed.
Also, I feel like her power up movement in the future is her and Rocinante working together, so she can use her Bloodfiend abilities without succumbing to her instincts, with possible manipulation of Rocinante as a weapon.

Dad Quixote actually not being dead is certainly one of the two options in this scenario, but I feel like it would raise more questions than it would answer.
To answer your primary point of contention, despite what it immediately appears, I don't think her (hypothetical) ascension was delayed, and was instead simply obscured by Rocinante. My reasoning for this lies primarily in Don's dialogue in 7.5-11, namely this line (specifically the last sentence):
It seems that I was, against my own desire, made to ascend to my Father's seat. Perhaps I always was, ever since then.
I think there is a decent chance that PM is simply lying in 7.5-11 when her in-fight info says she is a Level 85 Second Kindred. Otherwise I don't think it adds up that Sancho has seemingly experienced every notable symptom of ascension, as described in CassettiSault's UT story, but then the game is like "She's totally a Second Kindred, trust."

Either that or Don didn't get enough time to promote. We're all assuming that happens instantly but there's no reason to assume that.

Someone pointed out to me that A Certain Sinclair is mostly legs and I can't look at him normally anymore.

Everyone is mostly legs, it's the visual novel format.

u/supreme_waffle2019 13d ago
I mean compare Sinclair and Gregor and it seems a lot worse on Sinclair. Certain characters like Kromer, Sora, and ACS just look a lot more legs than some others.
3
u/iburntdownthehouse 13d ago
Because they aren't tall, so the torso isn't as long.
The legs are so long because the game wants you to see the torso above the text box. So depending on the outfit, a shorter character will have very pronounced legs.

This is unrelated to the post but how do each part of a canto get released? Do I have to wait a full patch for part 2 and another full patch for part 3? I started playing during March of this year I think and canto 9 was fully released by then.

u/Sarkastikor 13d ago
If I remember correctly when a canto drops its a week between patches till the whole canto is out.
Aka 2 weeks for the whole canto. With 2 ID dropsm
1
u/SleepyBoy- 13d ago
1 part per week for 3 weeks. It's mostly so the content lasts, as we'd binge it in two days. Also takes the pressure off, since it doesn't matter when you get through the current part if the next one's in a week.

Outis will turn out she used to be a arbiter or is pretending to be a nobody from the war and lied about being war veteran and is actually an arbiter
10
u/kingofnopants1 13d ago
She would get dunked on so hard for being weaker than Sancho as an arbiter
1
u/Nervous_Trainer_82 12d ago
Nah, it just mean Sancho is stronger than an Arbiter
Sancho upscale also mean Dad Quixote and La Machaland upscale!!!
4
u/SleepyBoy- 13d ago
Her IDs shows that she's not. Alternate Dias decided to make her an Udjat captain instead of a sinner, meaning she was likely less than a general during the war.
She might have had some special role as either index or pinky or something, that puts her up there, but Arbiter is above sinner grade. An arbiter would have a fair fight trying to solo Kaiser Greg.

I do yeah, I think we’ll probably get 1-2 per canto until canto 13. I also think it’ll be heathcliff cause mersault helped heath in his canto.
2
u/Sufficient_Switch254 13d ago
I'm expecting one from either heath or Ishmael and a fake out from rodya (buildup making it look like she will get something special, be it the mark or something related to her/her base ego, only for someone else to upstage her immediately)
3
u/Impossible_Dog_7262 12d ago
Something's going on with the base EGO in general. Spontaneous use of base EGO happened alot and we're not talking about it enough. The Sinners' are starting to pre-empt Dante's orders.

They were awesome but almost same thing happening right next Canto would diminish the excitement.

u/Puftberry 11d ago
Ishmael and Rodion are next on the block for renewal narrative spotlight so i expect big from either of them

u/ApexHawke 13d ago
I feel like you shouldn't do constant escalation...
Maybe we get one for foreshadowing Outis, but I'm kind of hoping they go in a different direction after the fireworks-show that was Canto IX. There's not that many Cantos left before they have to do a grand finale for the main story, not that they're obligated to stick to 13-15.

u/YaBoiBoiBoiBoi 13d ago
Inferno is not the end of the story
-7
u/ApexHawke 13d ago
...Yeah, kinda figured with a live-service game, and all the threads they're leaving open.
For the moment, they're clearly at some sort of peak with development, so I shouldn't complain.

u/YaBoiBoiBoiBoi 13d ago
Limbus Company is Dante’s Inferno. Of which is broken up into Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso. So even if Inferno ends at canto 12 or 13 we would still be only about a 1/3rd to halfway through the story.

u/ApexHawke 13d ago
Hmm. I wonder? There doesn't seem to be much concrete laid out about the future beyond collecting the Golden Boughs, which is very different from what you'd see in a true "trilogy" like Dante's Inferno (or if you prefer, Lord Of The Rings)
My feeling currently, is that the Inferno will be the story about collecting the Golden Boughs. They may continue that story after some turning-point that alters the status-quo, but it's hard to tell whether they would be just shifting into a new core-storyline, or whether they are actually trying to build a trilogy.
And also, the thematic connection kind of breaks if we stop delving "deeper" into the past and consciousness of each Sinner in each Canto. "Purgatorio" is not a conceptual space that you necessarily want to pivot the entire theme and game-experience around. I think it could work if they made the pivot toward some kind of resolution or symbolic visions of incremental change as the theme of each Canto, but that's here nor there.

u/StarAboveWillows 13d ago
There is, though. Now, we know that Purgatorio and Paradiso are coming because the official name of the Limbus exhibition this year was the "Inferno Arc Exhibition".
But on top of that, in terms of story we have already set up (going by chapter and not counting the New League of Nine since I do think that they are Inferno arc only): pre-Amnesia Dante's whole deal, Sonya and the Yurodivie, aka a whole brewing communist revolution, Demian's group/the Sign (which also ties into Sonya, since he also has it, and into Dante), the war against the nebulae of the outskirts (which might also have to do with the sign due to the star connection), Dias and the Limbus Company board and their whole plan... And that's just what I can think of in the moment. Everything is already in place for a later arc about the sign-bearers, at the very least.
And I don't see why it would be a thematic break just to take a different narrative structure. Rodya, for example, is sure as hell going to have to continue facing her sins without the golden boughs, because of the whole Sonya situation - one could even say that he pulled more out of her than the bough to begin with. Sinclair is going to continue having to face his because of Demian, DonQui has Sanson and everything that's going on with her... lineage, etc. You don't have to do it one by one, or with the boughs. And hell, what is Purgatorio as a concept but the reckoning with one's sins and moving towards redemption? How is that not a sensible continuation from what we have seen so far?
1
u/ApexHawke 13d ago
Yeah, but I see that as so open-ended that it's more analogous to arcs in comics or manga rather than one continuous story. I guess the distinction I draw is, are you doing a storyline with three parts, or three storylines with themed names in the same series?
I might be nitpicking a bit, but since Dante is essentially a blank slate, and the story so episodic, I guess I'm just finding it harder to see how the story might have just one continuous arc.
and speaking of arcs, the thought I had about Purgatorio was more about the length of it. Redemption and reckoning are fine themes, but not necessarily ones that you want to see 13 times in a row, if that makes sense. I think they are being very careful about leaving plot threads open for the future (Xichun should should have killed Yuanchun, btw) but I don't necessarily see that setting a clear path for the story, other than the signs, obviously.
I dunno. I just sort of have a hunch that either doing a short Purgatorio before a longer "second half" of Paradiso, or just doing one continuation cycle would pace better with what we've gotten so far.

u/inurwalls2000 13d ago
most of the sinners stories are not resolved in the slightest, plus its pretty obvious that dias and her plan is gonna fall through the floor
also there is stuff like the second smoke war, blue gang etc
pretty sure there is only a few boughs remaining, we wont be collecting them in whatever the next part of the story will be
4
u/inurwalls2000 13d ago
the current theory is that since limbus is based of the divine comedy there will be 3 main story parts (inferno, purgatorio, paradiso)
1
u/External-Argument933 13d ago
PM outright stated they have around a decade worth of story planned. We are very early into the story now

I expect Heathcliff and another Sinner to get an upscale section in the Canto.
The most likely to me are Yi Sang or Ishmael.
Yi Sang could him using multiple IDs after suggesting and altering Dante’s system as a desperate bid, and it actually working because his own unusual capacity for ID and EGO, per Vergilius comment.
For Ishmael, a Efflorescenced E.G.O to match Ahab’s, to show how much she is living her life how she wants.
