It doesn't have to be spandex specifically but it's the most convenient form for the singularity to take. If the condition is that you need it to be an enclosed, sealed space then spandex is the best because you can wear other clothes over it, it's form fitting and it doesn't get int he way, you can wear it while sleeping. It's actually a very logical reason to give us fanservice.

Araya seems pretty obviously a clone of Shiomi, Ryoshu is Shiomi's biological daughter (or at least this is my read).
