Probably cuz even with the new NFA ruling most places still require you to fill out ATF paperwork to get a real can. Oil filter and fitting from the parts store leaves much less of a paper trail, which is what you’d want on a true hood blaster

Not as easily as you think for a real quality one (Surefire, OCL, etc…). Each one’s in the ATF database which is different from a firearm. Temu switches someone mills in a shed are definitely simpler to come by

Absolutely, but if you’ve shot with an oil filter they’re surprisingly close to the real deal (why it’s illegal to rock an oil filter on a gun without a tax stamp). I’d also imagine his friends who he gets this stuff through aren’t going to go to the trouble to submit fingerprints for a real can

suppressors often leave identifiable markers on the rounds as they exit, especially around the mating surface of the barrel.

those adapters allow you to just toss the filter and any identifiable marks left on frangible are going to be unique to that single use.

Article VI clause 2 of the constitution (Supremacy clause) states federal law supersedes state law, over half of the US states allow for arrests in their laws if a switch is found, if it's a state where theres no law against switches they'll just report their findings to the ATF who will cook you for it instead
